PBS to Premiere Political Thriller Documentary DARK MONEY

Your vote can be bought, but at what cost? Dark Money follows local Montana journalist John S. Adams, who is determined to uncover the truth about funding in his state's elections. The film gains insights over the course of three election cycles, as it solves an increasingly complicated and blurred puzzle. Dark Money traces Adams' steps and sheds light on the grassroots movement to unveil the mysterious financing behind our elections.

In 1999, Colorado mother Jessica Gonzales experienced every parent's worst nightmare when her three young daughters were killed after her estranged husband abducted them in violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Devastated, Jessica filed a lawsuit against the police, claiming they did not adequately enforce her restraining order despite her repeated calls for help that night. Determined to make sure her daughters did not die in vain, Jessica pursues her case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and an international human rights tribunal, seeking to strengthen legal rights for domestic violence victims. Meanwhile, her relationship with her one-surviving child, her son Jessie, suffers, as he struggles with the tragedy in his own way.

Ostensibly, this film is a love story: between husband and wife and man and country. This lyrical portrait of contemporary Cuban realities gives an intimate, meditative glimpse into a family's dynamic way of life in Voices of the Sea.

PBS Presents the American Experience's New Film THE EUGENICS CRUSADE

The Eugenics Crusade tells the story of the unlikely –– and largely unknown –– project to breed a better American race, tracing the rise of a movement that turned a scientific theory of heredity into a powerful instrument of social control. Populated by figures both celebrated and obscure, it is an often revelatory portrait of an America at once strange and eerily familiar. Written and directed by Michelle Ferrari, produced by Ferrari, Rafael de la Uz and Connie Honeycutt, and executive produced by Mark Samels, The Eugenics Crusade premieres on American Experience Tuesday, October 16, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS.

NBC10 Boston, NBC Sports Boston, Telemundo Boston and necn today broke ground on the NBCUniversal Boston Media Center — a new multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art 160,000 square foot news and content creation center located on ?189 B Street in Needham, MA. The stations' new media center was formerly the General Dynamics building and is located in the Needham Crossing Business Park, part of the N-Squared Innovation District. The new building will bring together approximately 390 NBCUniversal employees from four separate offices across the Boston area and New England, under one roof. Boston area employees were joined by NBCUniversal executives, state and local elected officials, as well as Needham business partners to celebrate the largest investment made – ever – by a media company to build out the most advanced broadcast facility in the Greater Boston area.

IN & OF ITSELF Breaks Box Office Record For Weekly Gross; Extra Seats Added For Final Week Of Run

 IN & OF ITSELF, the smash-hit solo show written and performed by three-time Academy of Magical Arts Award winner Derek DelGaudio (Nothing to Hide) and directed by four-time Emmy Award winner Frank Oz (Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Star Wars), adds one more record to the books by breaking the all-time record for highest weekly gross ($216,630.00) at Daryl Roth Theatre, for the production's penultimate week of performances (week ending August 12).  The show is also primed to break the record a second time in the upcoming final week, with DelGaudio delivering the final performance ever on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

Paula S. Apsell to Receive Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that Paula S. Apsell, Senior Executive Producer of the multiple Emmy® Award winning series, NOVA, and Director of the WGBH Science Unit, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award at the 39th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards.  Apsell is being honored for her distinguished career of over four decades in science journalism, and for her 33 years at the helm of NOVA, PBS' premier science documentary series, produced at WGBH Boston. The award will be presented on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.

POV recently acquired the U.S. broadcast rights for306 Hollywood by Elan and Jonathan Bogarín.  The film will join POV's early 2019 schedule with AmDoc/POV Co-production Minding the Gap by Bing Liu, which announced last week a Hulu Originals acquisition for an August 2018 theatrical and streaming release. These 2019 films build on POV's recent announcements regarding the acquisition of On Her Shoulders and The Silence of Others.
