Dave Malloy, John Leguizamo & More Receive Berkeley Rep's Ground Floor Residencies

Today, The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work announces that it has selected 18 projects from more than 30 innovative artists for its third Summer Residency Lab. This June, as part of an extraordinary laboratory for collaboration, some of the nation's most prominent and promising writers, directors, and composers will unite at the Theatre's campus in West Berkeley for an intense four-week period to live, dine, and create new plays together. Dozens more local and out-of-town actors and directors will join The Ground Floor process, bringing the number of artists involved close to 100.

BWW CD Reviews: NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 (Original Cast Recording) is Astonishingly Complex

Nestled in the heart of New York City's Theater District, a slice of Russian literature has been making waves. At an opulent Supper Club housed within custom pop-up tent called Kazino, located at 259 West 45th Street, Dave Malloy's NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, a musical adaptation of Volume 2, Part 5 of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, is enjoying a well-received revival, which is set to close on January 19, 2014. The musical premiered at Ars Nova in 2012, and has been consistently praised for its catchy original score, which enthusiastically blends both Russian folk and classical music with indie rock and electronic dance music. Now, this unforgettable score is preserved on Ghostlight Record's NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 (Original Cast Recording).

Barnes & Noble just celebrated the release of the new Ghostlight Records cast recording NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 with a special in-store performance and CD signing yesterday, December 10, the CD release date. The event was hosted by composer/writer Dave Malloy and included director Rachel Chavkin and members of the original cast. Morningside Opera, the NYC-based opera company that most recently presented the acclaimed ¡Figaro! (90210), is proud to present HERE BE SIRENS, the world premiere of a new dramatic composition by award-winning composer Kate Soper, directed by OBIE Award-winner Rick Burkhardt. HERE BE SIRENS, which marks the premiere of a new work by a living composer for Morningside Opera, will play six performances from January 11th - February 2nd at the Dixon Place Theater (161A Chrystie Street, in New York's Lower East Side). Ghostlight Records will release the original cast recording of the hit downtown production of Dave Malloy's electropop opera NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 later in 2013. The album was recorded Monday, August 26th at MSR Studios in New York City. According to the show's Twitter page, Dave Malloy's electropop opera NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 has a a cast album on the way. A release date has not yet been announced.

PERFECT LIVES Gets Site-Specific Production in the Catskills Today

Today, August 17, Mount Tremper Arts will present a daylong, site-specific performance of Robert Ashley's 1983 landmark opera Perfect Lives. Adapted by composer-performer collective Varispeed, the performance consists of seven half-hour episodes staged throughout the Catskills. Performances are free and begin at 11am at Woodstock Village Green, a local park in Woodstock, NY. The final episode will take place at Sportsman's Alamo Cantina, a bar on Main Street in Phoenicia, NY.

NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 will add performances to its weekly playing schedule beginning Thursday, May 30th, due to popular demand. The playing schedule will now be as follows: Tuesdays at 8pm, Wednesdays at 2pm and 8pm, Thursdays at 8pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5:30 and 9:30pm, and Sundays at 1pm.
