The New School's newly formed College of Performing Arts, led by"firebrand" (New York Times) Executive Dean Richard Kessler, is pleased to announce winter-spring public programming highlights for the College's three schools: Mannes School of Music, The School of Jazz and The School of Drama. The Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning Keen Company today announced the inaugural Keen Playwrights Lab. Under the leadership of Mark Armstrong, Keen's Director of New Work, each playwright will be developing a new full-length play inspired by Keen Company's mission - sincere story telling with heart, honesty and hope. The collaborative and supportive environment brings together three acclaimed American playwrights in mid-career to develop new work and facilitate that work's exposure to a greater audience. The program will culminate in three public readings in April, 2014. More details TBA. Keen Playwrights Lab made possible in part thanks to a Creative Space Grant with A.R.T./New York. This season's participants are Jessica Dickey, Gabe McKinley and Qui Nguyen.
Naked Angels (Liz Carlson, Artistic Director) and The New School for Drama (Pippin Parker, Director) present Angels Ajar, an exclusive preview of brand new full-length work by some of the industry's most revered and promising talent on November 4th. Jon Robin Baitz (Naked Angels Founding Member, New School for Drama Faculty), Janine Nabers (New School for Drama MFA '08; 2011 Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship); and Kirit Limperis; a gifted participant from 3Thursdays, Naked Angels' public high school outreach program; will share excerpts from their newest work which are still in process.
The New School for Drama will welcome Naked Angels, the eclectic downtown theater company, as its producing partner, training young theater artists in an environment of experimentation and collaboration. Naked Angels will be housed in New School facilities and provide undergraduate and graduate theater students a critical professional association with working artists in New York theater.
