The Hub At JCCSF Presents Six Events Starting 1/22/09

The Hub at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCCSF) will present six cutting-edge events in the first half of 2009, including plays, another great Purim party, and musical extravaganzas. Craig Pomranz Set To Appear At The Metropolitain Room 2/14

Romance will be in the air at The Metropolitan Room in February when one of the dreamiest voices in the music business takes the stage on Feb. 14 and 15 for a Valentine's Day engagement. Craig Pomranz, ?One of New York's most critically-acclaimed saloon singers,? (New York Magazine) will return to the 'Best Cabaret in New York' (New York Magazine-Best of New York 2008) with two evenings of songs celebrating love in all its guises. The year was 1980, and Patti LuPone was starring as 'Evita' on Broadway. She was en route to winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, and cementing her status as a Broadway star. But there was another Patti LuPone performance taking place -- one that only a comparative handful of people were aware of: Every Saturday night at midnight, for 27 weeks, after performing one of the most demanding roles ever, she made her way to Les Mouches - a legendary nightclub in New York City, to perform a solo concert...This was a one-woman tour de force that -- until now -- only the lucky few who were on hand knew about.

Jefferson Award Nominees Announced

Today, the Jefferson Awards announced the 150 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008. Beginning with this season, the Jeff Awards is acknowledging the work of Large and Midsize theatres in separate categories for productions and technical elements.

It was announced today that in its European premiere production at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Funk It Up About Nothin' has won the Dress Circle Award for Best Musical Production at the Scotsman Fringe First Awards Ceremony, following its world premiere engagement at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST). This new'ad-rap-tation' of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is created and directed by The Q Brothers, GQ and JQ, co-creators of the international success The Bomb-itty of Errors (Fringe Stage Award-Best Ensemble, 2002) and the MTV cult classic, Scratch and Burn. The Q Brothers also star in this exuberant hip-hop extravaganza-Shakespeare's romantic comedy rapped to the rhythm of six MCs and a live DJ.
