Bychkov leads the NY Philharmonic a magnificent and majestic Mahler 6th.

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 14th- annual summer residency there, featuring six concerts July 22-29, 2016.

In the second year of a four-year partnership between Music Academy of the West and the New York Philharmonic, ten Academy musicians will travel to New York in January 2016 to participate in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program (Jan 2-12), developing their career skills through what President and CEO of the Music Academy of the West Scott Reed called "an extraordinary opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside the musicians of one of the world's greatest orchestras."

Bass-baritone Eric Owens will continue his tenure as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in- Residence with performances, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, of Richard Strauss songs - "Ruhe, meine Seele," Op. 27, No. 1; "Ca?cilie," Op. 27, No. 2; "Pilgers Morgenlied," Op. 33, No. 4 - and the Final Scene from Act III of Die Walku?re, alongside soprano Heidi Melton in her Philharmonic debut. The program also includes Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Sibelius's En saga, one of several programs this season honoring the 150th anniversary of Sibelius's birth. The performances take place Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.

An additional performance is slated for 8 p.m. on November 13 at Sugar Land Baptist Church as part of the Houston Symphony's Sugar Land Series.

The concerts take place tonight, November 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m.

California Music Center and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music are embarking upon a new collaboration, which will bring the Irving M. Klein International String Competition to the Conservatory's Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall beginning June, 2016. The Klein Competition, now in its 31st year, was previously presented at San Francisco State University.

For the last century, the three B's of classical music have been Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, and their catalogues remain the programming bedrock of most symphony orchestras around the world. On Friday, Oct. 23rd the New York Philharmonic gave a very strong argument for Brahms remaining at the very top of the programmatic choices. It was an extremely well-considered and magnificently executed combination of very old and very new (if you can say that about Brahms) selections that combined for a deeply fulfilling performance.

Pianist Maurizio Pollini will return to the New York Philharmonic for the first time since 1994 to join Music Director Alan Gilbert and the Orchestra for a one-night-only performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, tonight, October 16, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. The program also includes Berlioz's Le Corsaire Overture and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, Overture-Fantasy.

This weekend found the New York Philharmonic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the inaugural performance residency of its five-year partnership with the University Musical Society of the University of Michigan, in conjunction with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Alan Gilbert led the Orchestra in works by Beethoven, Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Richard Strauss; David Newman led the score to On the Waterfrontas the complete film was screened; Philharmonic musicians led master classes; and Alan Gilbert conducted a thousand — Philharmonic brass plus the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Alumni Band, and UMS Choral Union — at the Michigan Homecoming football game halftime show. Carnegie Hall is excited to announce that its Opening Night Gala concert tonight, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. -- launching the Hall's historic 125th anniversary season -- will be webcast free of charge to a worldwide audience, thanks to its continued partnership with medici.tv.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic on the CALIFORNIA 2016 tour, May 3-7, 2016. The tour will feature four orchestral concerts with appearances in Costa Mesa, San Diego, and San Francisco.

The Opening Night program, featuring the New York Philharmonic conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, will include the world premiere of Vivo by Magnus Lindberg, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall; Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe Suite No. 2; and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with guest soloist Evgeny Kissin.
