This July, three Carnegie Hall concerts showcase some of the finest young teen musicians from across the United States and abroad in performances presented over three consecutive nights in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.

Music Academy's 70th Anniversary Season Announced

 The Music Academy of the West launches its 70th anniversary season on June 12. To celebrate this major milestone anniversary, the Festival will launch three important new initiatives - the Commissions and Premieres program, the Enterprise Awards program for alumni, and the Steinway Competition and tour - besides presenting the inaugural Evolution/Revolution Conference and the largest classical music event in the history of Santa Barbara, California, for which Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the final performance of his eight-year tenure with the orchestra. This year's four Mosher Guest Artists, Matthew Aucoin, David Daniels, Renee Fleming, and Stephen Hough, will take part in major Academy performances and share their expertise through masterclasses. Taking place from June 12 through August 5, 2017, the 70th Season Festival will comprise more than 200 masterclasses, recitals, performances, and events in Santa Barbara, many of which are free to the public. Festival events will feature the Summer School's 137 fellows, drawn from 22 states and eight countries, as well as nearly 70 faculty and guest artists.

NY Philharmonic Announces Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership

The New York Philharmonic travels to Shanghai for its third annual performance residency as part of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership, July 2–8, 2017. The residency will feature four performances at Shanghai Symphony Hall, including a Young People's Concert in which select students from the Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) will perform Dvo?ák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, alongside the Orchestra; master classes, lessons, coachings, and a side-by-side Philharmonic rehearsal with SOA students of Dvo?ák's New World Symphony and Brahms's Symphony No. 3; and a Very Young Composers workshop and performance. The performances are presented as part of Shanghai's Music in the Summer Air (MISA) festival. The Philharmonic's Shanghai partnership is a cornerstone and founding component of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy. Photo Flash: First Look at NY Philharmonic Performing in London for EUROPE/SPRING 2017 TOUR

The New York Philharmonic returned to London, its every-other-year home and the seventh stop on the EUROPE / SPRING 2017 tour. There, the Orchestra performed adventurous concerts as part of its third residency at the Barbican Centre under the auspices of its International Associates initiative. Highlights included Yo-Yo Ma in Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen's new Cello Concerto, John Adams with the New York Philharmonic String Quartet, and the first-ever Very Young People's Concert abroad. 

Dinu Lipatti presents 100th Anniversary Concert 4/27 at Benaroya Hall

The American Romanian Cultural Society (ARCS) pays homage to one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century: Romanian born Dinu Lipatti.  On April 27, 2017 at 7pm Benaroya Hall's acoustically rich Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall hosts this very special 100th anniversary musical celebration. Lipatti fulfilled a startling variety of roles - pianist, composer, teacher and critic -before his untimely death from cancer at age 33. Posthumously elected to the Romanian Academy, Lipatti brought outstanding contributions to classical music interpretation and composition. His pianism demonstrated an ideal synthesis of a composer's analytical insight and expressive inwardness. Internationally acclaimed violinist and pianist Alexandru Tomescu (violin) and Angela Draghicescu (piano) pay tribute to Dinu Lipatti in an exquisite chamber concert featuring works by Beethoven, Bach, Bartok and Gershwin as well as the Seattle premiere of Dinu Lipatti's rarely performed Sonatina for Violin and Piano.

New York Philharmonic To Return To BRAVO! Vail, 7/21-28

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado, celebrating its 30th season, for the Orchestra's 15th annual summer residency, July 21-28, 2017. The residency will include six orchestral concerts that honor the Philharmonic's legacy on the occasion of its 175th anniversary season and the conclusion of Alan Gilbert's tenure as Music Director.
