Sarasota Opera Receives NEA Grant

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved an Art Works award of $20,000 to support the winter 2017 production of The Dialogues of the Carmelites by Francis Poulenc. More than $82 million has been designated to fund local arts projects and partnerships around the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2016. This production will be a part of the newly launched “Sarasota Firsts” initiative in which the company will produce operas never before seen on the Sarasota Opera House stage.

Merola Opera Program to Present Schwabacher Summer Concerts, 7/7

SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2016 – The acclaimed Merola Opera Program, one of the most prestigious and selective opera training programs in the United States, opens its 2016 Summer Festival with the popular Schwabacher Summer Concerts Thursday, July 7 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 9 at 2 pm at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Conducted by Eric Weimer and directed by Omer Ben Seadia, the Schwabacher Summer Concert features this year's Merola Opera artists performing extended scenes from operas including Handel's Serse, Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, R. Strauss's Arabella, Wagner's Lohengrin, Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, and Rossini's Le Comte Ory. Tickets for the concerts at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music range from $25 to $40, with a limited number of $15 student tickets.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents the Paul Taylor Dance Company under the artistic direction of Paul Taylor, May 25-28, 2016 in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.

OSM to Premiere Raphael Mostel's 'THE TRAVELS OF BABAR' Orchestral Version

The world premiere of the orchestral version of Raphael Mostel's THE TRAVELS OF BABAR: RETURN TO THE LAND OF ELEPHANTS will be presented by the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, conducted by Dina Gilbert, on Sunday, May 15 at 1:30pm at Maison symphonique de Montreal, and narrated in French by actors Sophie Cadieux and Pierre Brassard.

ORGANISTS OF EASTMAN Set for Music at Saint Paul's, April 10

Rarely does a discerning lover of the pipe organ have the opportunity to hear three full-scale organ concerti in a single program. On Sunday, April 10th, at 5:00pm, graduate students from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester will present a program of works by three composers, spanning almost 200 years. 

San Francisco Opera Announces 2016-17 Season

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera's Taube Atrium Theater. The Company's 94th Season will also mark Matthew Shilvock's inaugural year as San Francisco Opera's new general director, succeeding his mentor and internationally respected impresario, David Gockley, who will step down on July 31, 2016.

 DALLAS, TX, December 8, 2015 – The Dallas Opera will present opera legend Frederica von Stade, mezzo-soprano, for another magnificent performance in The Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Art Song Recital Series. The one-time-only recital will be presented Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at City Performance Hall (a 749-seat venue located at 2520 Flora Street in the Arts District, Dallas, TX 75201). Also featured at the exclusive event will be Jake Heggie, composer (Great Scott, Moby-Dick) and accomplished pianist, who has had a long-standing artistic collaboration with Miss von Stade.

Performance Update Announced for The MET Chamber Ensemble's Zankell Hall Show

  Carnegie Hall today announced an updated program and artist listing for The Met Chamber Ensemble's concert on Sunday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall led by Artistic Director and Conductor James Levine. Pierre Boulez's Derive 1 replaces the previously announced Boulez work sur Incises on the program. In addition, Poulenc's Le Bal masque has been added to the program and will be sung by baritone John Moore. Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps concludes the program as previously announced.

Patricia Racette to Headline Chicago Opera Theater's February Double Bill

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) continues its 2015/16 season with a double bill featuring Francis Poulenc's emotional and passionate 'La Voix Humaine' and Giacomo Puccini's delightful 'Gianni Schicchi' at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance (205 E. Randolph St.) on Feb. 6 and 14. The operas will be directed by COT's Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson General Director Andreas Mitisek and conducted by Ari Pelto.

Diana Damrau to Perform at Carnegie Hall, 12/6

?Named "Best Female Singer" at the 2014 International Opera Awards, German soprano Diana Damrau appears in recital with pianist Craig Rutenberg at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Ms. Damrau and Mr. Rutenberg perform German lieder by Schubert and R. Strauss, French songs by Poulenc and Manuel Rosenthal, and Dvo?ak's Zigeunermelodien.
