Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill will celebrate 35 years of acclaimed Off-Broadway plays/musicals and art programming at The Central Park Boathouse on Monday, May 15 at 6:30 pm.

Today, April 15 (3pm EST), Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy will announce the winners of the the 2019 Pulitzer Prizes, including the finalists and winners for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In this original double feature presentation, two guys - Thomas Frances and Justin Linville - and two girls - Kelly Cooper and Caitlin Dullea - have written plays for their counterparts to perform. This upcoming two-night run at the BCC features two new plays, Ouroboros and The Bends -a play about social media mistakes and another about a troubling relationship with a landlord, respectively.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced the recipients of its 50th annual awards for distinguished achievement in theatre last night, Monday, April 8, 2019, at Pasadena Playhouse. Wenzel Jones presided over the festivities, and Christopher Raymond served as music director.

The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Los Angeles Master Chorale's Annual High School Choir Festival will be so joyous, it cannot be contained within the walls of Walt Disney Concert Hall! As part of the celebratory Festival Day on Friday, May 3, over 1,000 student singers will give a pop-up performance outdoors on the main staircase of Disney Hall on Grand Avenue at 11:30 AM. Internationally renowned choral conductor and composer Eric Whitacre, who is the 2019 Festival's guest artist, will lead the students in a performance of Pentatonix's Sing, arranged for the Master Chorale by Ben Bram and Pentatonix.

The McCallum Theatre announced today its new lineup for the 2019-2020 season, continuing to present the finest world-class artists and entertainers for Coachella Valley audiences.  The new season includes McCallum debuts, returning favorites, iconic superstars, family-friendly entertainment and holiday cheer, among so much more. The baritone Steven Eddy, a native of Laurel, MD, is the First Place winner of the Oratorio Society of New York's 2019 Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition. The awards to the eight finalists were announced by Competition Chairwoman Janet Plucknett following their performances in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, April 6. The Autorino Center will host the internationally renowned Afro-Cuban All Stars on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoffman Auditorium, Bruyette Athenaeum. This Cuban big band, featured in the Academy Award-winning documentary Buena Vista Social Club, brings the sizzling sounds of Havana to the Hartford area for the first time ever. Led by the legendary Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, they perform music from the rich and soulful golden era of pre-revolutionary Cuba.

The Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents THE SECRET GARDEN based on the 1911 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett with the musical's script and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon. The award-winning, autobiographical comedy MY LIFE ON A DIET, starring Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning writer and actress Renee Taylor ("The Nanny"), is now on tour. The current stop is at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210), where the show opened this weekend, and will perform a limited engagement through Sunday, April 14.

Such is the ordeal Anne Frank, a 13-year-old girl, her family and others had to endure during the German occupation of Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944 and, of course, the subject of one of the most famous accounts during World War II, "The Diary of Anne Frank", currently being presented in play form at Seattle Children's Theatre. But beyond the lovely performances and impactful presentation, hopefully viewers will come away realizing how fortunate we are for the freedoms we still have and how important it is to look out for those that are being marginalized.

Portland favorites Gretchen Corbett and Sharonlee McLean take the stage beginning May 4 to star in David Hare's The Breath of Life, a two-woman play The Daily Telegraph called "bitingly funny." When Francis Beale (McLean) decides she wants one last word with her ex-husband's ex-lover (Corbett), both women are forced to confront their past, their failed relationships, dashed ideals and the lens through which they choose to view their futures. Ken Rus Schmoll (readings in six of the last ten JAW Festivals at The Armory, productions at Playwrights Horizons and New York Theatre Workshop) will direct.
