ELF The Musical is the hilarious odyssey tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts one Christmas night and is unknowingly transported back to the North Pole. Once discovered, he ends up being raised as an elf. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy's enormous, comically bigger size than his elf pals - little workers that he out-jollies by far, but falls far short of by his pathetic toy-making skills - prompts Elf to face an agonizing truth. He simply doesn't fit in….

Ever since the success of Disney's The Lion King, Disney Theatricals have been trying to catch lightning in a bottle a second time. After the original production of Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID closed on Broadway in 2009 (after a run of 685 performances), it underwent two years of intensive work to fine-tune and re-think the production. In 2014, Theatre Under The Stars produced this current revised version which includes new scenery and new costumes as well as flying.

There's that saying 'Every day you live is one day closer to death.' The opposite happened for me when by some miracle, or maybe even magic, I became younger and younger until I was young enough to think lovely thoughts and follow Peter to his Neverland at Rivertown Theaters. PETER PAN is a show that has always been very special to me. Whether it was my sister betting her fellow first graders that they hadn't seen the 'Mary Martin version' or learning the entirety of the shadow puppet show from 'I Gotta Crow,' this story is one that has and will forever resonate within my soul.
No one tried to plug their cell phones into an outlet on the stage last night at Idina Menzel's World Tour concert. Maybe that's because it wasn't a Broadway house, but a concert venue in New Jersey's suburbs. But, some might think it was Broadway based on the set list for her solo show at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel Sunday night.
If writer P.L. Travers, the notoriously protective creator of Mary Poppins, was even half so prickly as we have been led to believe she was - thanks in large part to the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks, the film retelling of her experiences with Walt Disney, et al, over the film adaptation of her beloved work - it's very easy to imagine how she might cringe at the thought of high school students taking on the musical theater version of her timeless story. However, if she knew in advance that it was being produced by Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy, under the direction of an artist as exacting as Paula Flautt, we rather think Miss Travers would be pleased -and without reservation.
Next week, theater students at Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA) will hit the stage in one of childhood's most beloved stories, penned by P.L. Travers and adapted for the stage: Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins. This musical tale features a family in disrepair; a family in need of rescue that comes in an astonishing form.

The cast of Kean University students also includes two local children - Joshua Hunt of Cranford and Lucas Luchsinger of Elizabeth - who will share the role of Michael Darling.
Brigham Young University was offered an incredible opportunity in mounting the U.S. premiere of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. The musical, which has previously been staged in Europe and Asia, features music by Frank Wildhorn. BYU's production is nothing short of spectacular, with gorgeous design, strong performances, thrilling music played by a large orchestra, engaging storytelling, and even special effects courtesy of Flying by Foy.
