Travel over the rainbow at City Theater to a magical kingdom filled with munchkins, flying monkeys, witches, and wizards. Join four unlikely friends as they set out to discover wisdom, compassion, courage, and the way home. The Wizard of Oz runs for three weekends, July 21st-August 6th.

The Wizard of Oz is a heartwarming tale of magic and fantasy, good and evil, and family and friendship. Based on L. Frank Baum's novel and the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz finds Kansas farm girl Dorothy (Bri Roche of Portland) plucked from her small-town life and transported to a fantastical kingdom where magic and mischief lie around every bend in the road. Desperate for a way to return home, Dorothy is aided by a trio of unlikely friends: Scarecrow (Justin Stebbins of Westbrook), Tin Man (Brian McAloon of Old Orchard), and a very cowardly Lion (Schuyler White of Kennebunk). With the help of Glinda the Good Witch of the North (Lynn Boren-McKellar of Saco), they set off to find the powerful Wizard of Oz (Brett Balfour of saco), while struggling to keep Dorothy, her dog Toto , and a pair of enchanted slippers out of the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West (Alyssa Rojecki of Gorham).

The musical adaption of The Wizard of Oz was originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in London in 1987 with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. The score is full of tunes from the timeless film such as "We're Off To See the Wizard", If I Only Had A Brain", "The Merry Old Land of Oz", and - of course - "Over The Rainbow".

The City Theater production features a cast of more than 62 local performers including: 16 adorable Munchkins, 7 Flying Monkeys, 8 featured dancers playing Crows, Apple Trees, Jitterbugs and Poppies. And 21 dancing and singing Ozians! City Theater has engaged the assistance of Flying by Foy, so monkeys, and witches will fly! This along with a remarkable cast, gorgeous costumes, amazing sets, fabulous music and stunning special effects will make this a memorable theater experience for the whole family.
