A Theatre Lover's Guide to DC/Capital Area Theatres - November 2011 Offerings

November has over 60 more openings in the professional, community, universities, and children's theaters in the DC/MD/VA area. A week has already passed in November and over 20 new productions have opened. To read reviews of these shows, go to Maryland Theatre Guide, where I am the Editor and a columnist. A recent back surgery kept me from posting this earlier, so we have some catching up to do.

The DC area is full of spring splendor with so many gorgeous trees and azaleas in full bloom, and our local theatres are filled with new colorful productions. So come visit the Nation's Capital and bask in the city's beauty and the power and joy of our local theatres.

Cooper et al. to Star in Shakespeare Theatre's TWELFTH NIGHT 8/19-9/5

Washington DC's Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced that they will present a revival of their recent production of TWELFTH NIGHT as part of their Free For All series, which features free performances of Shakespeare plays. The production will take place at Sindey Harman Hall, located at 610 F Street NW, and will run from August 19 to September 5.

The Tony Award®-winning Old Globe presents the world premier of Cornelia, by Mark Victor Olsen (Big Love), directed by Ethan McSweeny (In This Corner), to run in the Old Globe Theatre May 16 ? June 21. Melinda Page Hamilton, who will play ?Cornelia,? was in the Globe?s critically acclaimed productions of Bell, Book and Candle and All My Sons. Robert Foxworth is a television veteran but is perhaps best known for his role as ?Bernard Chenowith? on HBO?s Six Feet Under. Ripley, Diaz, Rivera & NEXT TO NORMAL Among 25th Annual Helen Hayes Award Winners

The 25th Annual Helen Hayes Awards were presented last night as one of our nation's most prestigious cultural events. Nearly 2,000 theatre artists and supporters filled the majestic Warner Theatre in downtown DC for an evening of dazzling entertainment replete with humor, celebration, and great tributes to Washington area professional theatre.

HAIR 'Lets the Sun Shine In on Broadway', Previews Begin March 6, 2009

Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
