En el centenario del natalicio de la poeta costarricense Eunice Odio (San José de Costa Rica, 1919- Ciudad de México, 1974), el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), a través de la Coordinación Nacional de Literatura, le dedicará un homenaje que contempla dos actividades: Cien años de Eunice Odio, en la que diversos autores abordarán la trascendencia de su obra literaria acompañada de una lectura musicalizada, y la presentación de la compilación poética, Territorio de voces y fuego, que reúne la obra de 16 escritores.

Christopher Lloyd To Star In POUND At The Lion Theatre

Triumvirate Artists, a NYC-based production company that most recently created the Off-Broadway show "Delirium's Daughters," announces that Drama Desk and multiple Emmy Award-winning actor Christopher Lloyd will star as Ezra Pound in their upcoming play, "POUND." The show will debut as a limited engagement for 16 performances from October 4 to 28, 2018 at The Lion Theatre, located at 410 West 42nd Street, New York, NY.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in a co-presentation with Pomegranate Arts, is thrilled to announce the special guest artists who will perform in Taylor Mac's ambitious, internationally acclaimed work A 24-Decade History of Popular Music. Local Philadelphia performance artists and musicians will join Mac in these final U.S. performances of the full, 24-hour-long pop odyssey, June 2 & 9 at the Kimmel Center's Merriam Theater, as part of the 2018 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). Mac will perform A 24-Decade History of Popular Music as two distinct 12-hour concerts, Saturday, June 2 (1776-1896) and Saturday, June 9 (1896-present day) - Mac's longest continuous performances since the work premiered at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn in 2016.

WASTE LAND, THREAT, and THE COLUMBINE PROJECT Are All Back This Weekend

Waste Land is a WORLD PREMIERE serio-comedy period piece by legendary playwright Don Nigro that explores the tumultuous love between T.S. Eliot and his first wife, Vivienne during the time leading up to his creation of one of the most influential poems of the twentieth century. Full of literary references, musings about art and creativity, and appearances by recognized modernist characters like Ezra Pound, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein and Bertrand Russell, Waste Land is a funny and moving investigation of Eliot's life, loves, friendships and torments.

The Old Globe's 2017-2018 Season continues with today's announcement of the complete cast and creative team for the Southern California debut of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Ursula Rani Sarma's sweeping and deeply moving theatrical production based on the best-selling book by Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner). Directed by Carey Perloff and presented in association with American Conservatory Theater, A Thousand Splendid Suns will run May 12 - June 17, 2018 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre, Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Tickets start at $30.00 and are on sale to the general public now. Previews run May 12-16. Opening night is Thursday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m.

Tennessee Williams Literary Festival Announces Today's Events

Particularly in light of the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro, author and civil rights activist James Baldwin is garnering new attention and appreciation for his astute analyses of race, class, and sexuality in U.S. culture. Our reading group will take up his groundbreaking semi-autobiographical first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953). Attendees are invited to read this seminal text that brought mid-20th Century African-American literature out of the shadow of Richard Wright while deftly exploring the post-Civil War Great Migration, its southern roots, its religious inflections, and its generational tensions. The suggested edition is the most recent paperback (ISBN 978-0345806543). Traditional New Orleans fare of coffee and beignets at Muriel's Jackson Square with lively discussion to follow led by Festival favorite and Southern literary scholar Gary Richards. Seating is limited to 50 persons; pre-registration is required.

Firehouse's TO DAMASCUS Awarded $10,000 NEA Grant

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $25 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to Firehouse Theatre for the world premiere of Richmond composer Walter Braxton's opera TO DAMASCUS. This is the first direct NEA grant that Firehouse has received in its 24 year history.

John Leguizamo Will Host This Year's Obie Awards

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President and CEO) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, CEO; Stephen Mooallem, Editor-in-Chief) are have just announced that the 63rd Annual Obie Awards will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, and will move to a new venue, Terminal 5 (610 West 56th Street). Emmy and Obie-winning actor John Leguizamo, currently starring in Latin History for Morons on Broadway, will host. Tickets to the 2018 Obie Awards can be purchased at www.ObieAwards.com.
