Donna Tartt's long-awaited THE GOLDFINCH is, well, long.

Playwrights Horizons presents its New York premiere production of Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play, a new play by Anne Washburn, with music by Obie Award winner Michael Friedman. Directed by Steve Cosson, the Obie Award-winning Artistic Director of The Civilians, Mr. Burns is being presented as the first production of Playwrights Horizons' 2013/2014 Season.

Ominously thunder claps and the harsh florescent lights flicker. The stage, an immaculate recreation of a non-descript rehearsal studio in New York City, buzzes to life under the highly realistic, yet unusual lighting choice from the design standpoint. David Ives' wildly popular erotic comedy VENUS IN FUR springs to fully realized life on the Alley Theatre's Neuhaus Stage. Relentlessly erotic, the power struggle at the heart of the piece sizzles, grabbing audiences by throat. We collectively and willingly kneel before the play, submitting to its unflinching dominance, as we get lost in the poetry of the prose.

Italy's Dario D'Ambrosi is a radical innovator of the theater and founder of the movement called Teatro Patologico (Pathological Theater). Having staged revolutionary interpretations of 'Richard III' in 1996 and 'Romeo and Juliet' in 2009, he is now taking on 'Hamlet' with a new full-length work, 'Hamlet Hallucinations.' La Mama E.T.C., D'Ambrosi's theatrical home in the USA, will present the work's world premiere tonight, October 17 to November 3.

New York, NY, October 14, 2013 – New York Live Arts presents Big Dance Theater's (BDT) Ich, Kürbisgeist, October 31 – November 2, andNovember 5 – 9 at 7:30pm, and November 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 10:00pm, as part of its signature program, the Replay Series. An “impressively inscrutable” (The New York Times) work directed by Paul Lazar, co-directed and choreographed by Annie-B Parson and written by Sibyl Kempson, a playwright of works “authentic, appealing, and…thrill[ing]” (Village Voice), Ich Kürbisgeist returns to the stage just in time for Halloween.

GreenStage will complete its 25th anniversary season with another installment in its popular Hard Bard series. This fall Hard Bard will 'go Greek' with The Bacchae by Euripides, directed by Teresa Thuman, performed Thursdays through Sundays, today, Oct. 12-Nov. 2, at the Stage One Theatre at North Seattle Community College. As always, GreenStage performances will be absolutely free of charge.

The Metropolitan Opera has announced the addition of three new composers to its Met/LCT New Works Program. Matthew Aucoin, David T. Little, and Joshua Schmidt, three critically heralded young composers, have signed on to develop new operas through the program, which allows gifted composers and librettists to workshop new material for the opera and music theater stages, using the resources of the Met and Lincoln Center Theater. Nico Muhly's Two Boys, workshopped through the program, will have its North American premiere at the Met on October 21.

The writer who gave television some of its favorite moments in entertainment with 'Flamingo Road,' 'Dallas,' 'Falcon Crest,' 'The Colbys,' 'General Hospital,' and 'Dynasty,' Frank V. Furino, has brought Marilyn Monroe back to life ... on stage in 'Marylin ... MADNESS & Me,' which is based on an original concept by Didier Bloch, under the direction of Joe Leonardo. Opening in the Monroe Forum at the El Portal Theatre on Sept 26th for a limited run, the overwhelming response from the public and press alike, has resulted in the production's extension through October 20th, 2013, at which point the destiny of the show, with an eye on Broadway's Great White Way, will be determined. BAM presents the New York Premiere of A Rite as part of 2013 Next Wave Festival. The collaborative work by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Siti Company deconstructs the legendary score through our current cultural moment.
