Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Seeks Original Student Plays for Young Playwrights Festival

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center is now accepting scripts for its 13th annual Young Playwrights Festival to be held May 11-13, 2018. Applications are due by February 13, 2018. A world-renowned developer of new work and new artists for the American theater, the O'Neill is the winner of two Tony Awards and National Medal of Arts. Employing the signature 'O'Neill process,' the festival provides professional support to develop original one-act plays written by local middle and high school students.

Casting Announced For NIGHTFALL At The Bridge Theatre

Laurie Sansom will direct Ophelia Lovibond (Lou), Ukweli Roach (Pete) and Sion Daniel Young (Ryan) in the world premiere of Barney Norris's Nightfall running at the Bridge Theatre from 28 April 3 June 2018, with press night on 8 May 2018. Final casting will be announced shortly.

Lineup Announced For Fifth Annual POWERS NEW VOICES FESTIVAL at the Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced it will present the fifth annual Powers New Voices Festival, a weekend of readings of new American plays by professional playwrights, playing January 12 14, 2018. The festival will kick off today, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. with Voices of the Community: Celebrating Local Playwrights, an evening of work created by San Diego residents through the Globe's arts engagement initiatives Community Voices and coLAB, and will continue with four readings by some of the most exciting voices writing for the American theatre today. The new American play readings commence on Saturday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m. with Laurel Ollstein's They Promised Her the Moon, directed by Giovanna Sardelli (Somewhere, The Whipping Man at the Globe), followed at 7:30 p.m. by Too Heavy for Your Pocket by Jir h Breon Holder, directed by Patricia McGregor (Globe for All's Measure for Measure).The Festival continues on Sunday, January 14 at 3:00 p.m. with The Tale of Despereaux, with book, music, and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Co. (The Old Man and The Old Moon at the Globe), based on the novel by Kate DiCamillo and the Universal Pictures animated motion picture. The Festival will wrap up that evening at 7:30 p.m. with The Great Leap by Lauren Yee, directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (Globe's Skeleton Crew).

Performances of Ironbound begin at the Kitchen Theatre Company in The Percy Browning Performance Space on January 21 and run through February 4.

An invitation-only sneak peak of TILL SOON, ANNE (book and lyrics by Christine Toy Johnson, music by Bobby Cronin) will take place as part of the Dramatists Guild's 'Today Night Footlights' series on January 5, 2018 in New York City. Johnson and Cronin, along with Wade McCollum (ERNEST SHACKLETON LOVES YOU), Jaygee Macapugay (SCHOOL OF ROCK), Devin Ilaw (MISS SAIGON), Lauren Elder (SIDE SHOW), Cat Brindisi (THE PASSAGE) and David Darrow (book/music/lyrics writer of THE PASSAGE) will be singing songs from the show with William Demaniow at the piano and David Darrow on guitar.
