There is no mistaking what Ethel Merman brought to Broadway. A gifted comedienne, an accomplished actress, and a hurricane of a personality, Merman commanded attention from every stage she stood on with pure gumption and that incredibly booming voice. You may say the same thing about Rita McKenzie, the woman who bravely steps into Merman's persona for a one-woman tribute show titled (appropriately enough) 'ETHEL MERMAN'S BROADWAY,' her hit off-Broadway musical tribute now playing at the Laguna Playhouse through September 19.

Margaret O'Brien, Rhonda Fleming and Carol Channing were on hand to greet and thank WWII Veterans in Los Angeles on August 14th in true Hollywood Canteen style as thousands across the nation gathered in over 200 cities to Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive! The grassroots campaign was created to promote a national day of remembrance for greatest generation. Also in attendance were Kelly Stewart on behalf of her father, WWII Veteran Jimmy Stewart and actress and USO performer Kate Linder of The Young & the Restless, who had been one of the artists to attend the first event launch announcing the plans for this event and the resolution going through Congress at the time. Two very special guest were Bea Cohen, who at 101 shared memories of the WWII Experience and that day in in 1945 and WWII Veteran Harry Kullijian, who reiterated that 'You've all heard that there were no atheists in fox holes, but there also weren't any skin colors, religions or political parties. You knew you were Americans and that was all you needed to know.'

Ernest Borgnine, who is exuberantly entering his seventh decade of creating memorable characters and award-winning performances, will receive Screen Actors Guild (SAG)'s most prestigious accolade-the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which successfully staged its first TCM Classic Film Festival this past weekend in Hollywood, has given the go-ahead for a second edition of the festival, slated to take place in Spring 2011.

Billing himself as 'Ballantine the Great' or 'The Amazing Ballantine,' his vaudeville-style comedy routine involved transparent or incompetent stage magic tricks, which tend to flop to the wisecracking Ballantine's mock chagrin.

This year 235 feature length, documentary and short films - from 57 countries - will be screened over a six-day period In locations throughout the state, all vying for top awards. Out of over 7,000 film festivals worldwide, RIIFF is one of only 63 Academy Award qualifying Festivals. This year's films have been selected from a record entry base of over 3,000 submissions.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the B-movie musical ode to horror films, inspired a cult following replete with costume-garbed, ravenous fans shouting out lines and dancing in the aisles.
