The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance continues its 2015-16 season tonight, October 30 at the Hilberry Theatre with the opening of THE GREAT GATSBY. Wayne State University is delighted to present the only authorized stage interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, adapted by Simon Levy, featuring the memorable characters of the story interacting in its famous Gilded Age setting.

Staged readings for the finalists of the 2016 Louise Heck-Rabi Dramatic Writing Festival, hosted by Wayne State University, takes place today, October 22 and Friday, October 23 beginning at 9:00am in the Studio Theatre. Winners of the competition will have their plays presented at The Heck-Rabi Festival which is a unique opportunity for emerging playwrights to see their work produced.

The Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company (TAC) reunite for a sixth year, presenting Hamlet, Shakespeare's story of a Danish prince's search for vengeance, justice and truth, in repertory with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, a reworking of the same tragedy from the point of view of two minor characters and their static existence in a world beyond their comprehension. This two-week engagement today, April 22 - May 4, on the McGuire Proscenium Stage, will conclude a successful seven-month 42-city tour, during which time these productions played to thousands of adults and students in large and small markets around the United States. Both Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead will showcase the talents of graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, as well as alumni of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training.

Appomattox, a sprawling political epic by Christopher Hampton taking place in 1865 and 1965 at the close of the American Civil War and the pivotal Civil Rights Era, opened Friday, October 5 at the Guthrie Theater to continue the Hampton Celebration. The play runs until November 11 on the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage, and is directed by David Esbjornson (Broadway/London: Driving Miss Daisy, A Few Good Men; Broadway: The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, The Ride Down Mt. The Guthrie Theater today announced the full casts, comprising 39 actors, for the three plays of the Christopher Hampton Celebration.
