Maine State Music Theatre Finds Its Talent for Summer 2015
When the audience thinks of casting for a Broadway musical, they conjure up the image of a darkened auditorium, an artist onstage peering into the glare and hearing Zach's voice from out of the void with its curt dismissal, 'Thank you.' Since its smash opening on Broadway in 1975 A Chorus Line has come to embody in poetic terms the uphill struggles of countless artists who toil every day on stage and off in pursuit of the metier they love. The rituals of auditioning and casting calls are integral to the life of an actor or theatre director, and each year they are played out in countless theatres large and small across the country, a crucial part of the puzzle that goes into shaping a successful season.

The speaker is actor-dancer Carson Twitchell, who is talking about Maine State Music Theatre's latest hit, the Patti Colombo staging of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which opened July 17th at the Pickard Theatre in Brunswick, Maine. FROG KISS, the award-winning critical and audience favorite of the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival, begins its world premier performances on January 15th at the historic Wells Theatre, home of Virginia Stage Company, Norfolk,. This saucy and swinging musical with book and lyrics by Charles Leipart and music by Eric Schorr, is adapted from the novella The Frog Prince, A Fairytale for Consenting Adults by Stephen Mitchell. Opening Night is Friday, January 18th with performances through February 3rd.

Casting has been announced for the new Frank Wildhorn production of Zelda: An American Love Story, starring Lauren Kennedy and Tony award winner Jarrod Emick. Directed by Vincent Marina with original choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and additional choreography by Stephanie Klemons, the musical opens regionally in North Carolina October 3 at Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina and will run through October 28.
