On March 3rd Broadway for Self Help Africa will bring together some of Broadway's biggest stars for a night of song and celebration benefiting Self Help Africa at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City.

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, continues its 2013-2014 Season with Tom Jones, adapted by Jon Jory from the novel by Henry Fielding and directed by William Brown. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces casting for Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream, a 75-minute abridged production of William Shakespeare's whimsical comedy of misplaced young passions and magical mischief. This new adaptation by Jeff Award-winning director David H. Bell provides a quality, family-friendly introduction to Shakespeare with special opportunities for audiences to interact with the actors at every performance. In addition to public performances each Saturday, this production will welcome 1,000 students each day to the Theater's home on Navy Pier during its five-week run in the Courtyard Theater, followed by a tour to schools across the Midwest. Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed for the public Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. from February 22 to March 22 in CST's Courtyard Theater. After each performance, the actors remain on stage for a brief question-and-answer session, before joining the audience in the Lobby for one-on-one conversations and photo opportunities.

Let me just say that I am a fan of small community theatres tucked into residential neighborhoods, so naturally I'm inclined to feel kindly towards FPCT. Aside from the issue of parking on the streets of Fells Point, that is. The theatre, which is in its 27th season of operation, has been updated bit by bit, so the overall feel of the interior is contemporary, open and welcoming. The theatre seats are comfortable and don't squeak at all. At intermission, there are refreshments, including wine, available in the lobby.

Southport, previewing November 27, opening Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m., and running through December 29, 2013. The whole family will enjoy this heart-warming musical story of the first Christmas tree ship and the family who risked their lives to fill Chicago with the Christmas spirit. Hailed as 'A sacred part of a Chicago Christmas!' by The Chicago Tribune, the production features a powerful, moving story, an exquisite score of original music and traditional holiday favorites, and a company of 25 actors and musicians. The production is helmed by the Jeff-award winning team of L. Walter Stearns (Director), Eugene Dizon (Musical Director) and Brenda Didier (Choreographer).

The bungled kidnapping of a mysterious businessman has explosive ramifications for a violent petty thief, his emotionally fragile brother and their supposed victim, who soon reveals a variety of surprising secrets. Wickedly funny and powerfully emotional, Orphans portrays these very different men, whose childhood deprivation of love and nurturing has astonishing consequences. LAUNDRY & BOURBON is the story of three discontented and gossiping small-town wives, whose marriages are less than ideal, but strong friendship and a splash of bourbon see them through. LONE STAR is a side-splitting study of three Texas 'good ole boys' on a Saturday night carouse, which takes place in the cluttered back yard of a small-town Texas bar.
