Weekend Movie Box Office Update: August 07 - August 13, 2009

ShoWest has named Chris Pine ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, which will be held March 30-April 2, 2009, in Las Vegas. Pine will be presented with the ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow Award at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2nd, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. 'ShoWest has a history of recognizing major talents at the very earliest points in their rising careers,' said Neuhauser. 'Pine's impressive skills on the screen and stage will be sure to be showcased, with his performance as Captain Kirk, in the much anticipated release of Star Trek in theatres May 8, 2009. We could not be more excited to honor Chris Pine as this year's Male Star of Tomorrow.'

Universal Pictures in association with the Improv Comedy Club presents 'A NIGHT OF FUNNY PEOPLE' at the Orpheum Theater, Los Angeles, on Tuesday January 13, 2009 'A Night of Funny People' is a one-time-only comedy performance that will be filmed for use in Universal Pictures' upcoming 'Funny People,' from writer/director/producer Judd Apatow. The film stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, RZA, Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari.

Variety is reporting that stage and screen actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has just signed onto to lend his voice to the role of 'Max' in the upcoming Icon Film claymation feature 'Mary and Max'. The film center around the unlikely pen-pal friendshipe between Mary (voiced by Toni Collette), lonesome girl living in Australia and Max, a 40 something overweight man who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome living in New York. Eric Bana also stars and Barry Humphries narrates.
