ShoWest Names Chris Pine The ShoWest Male Star Of Tomorrow

By:

ShoWest has named Chris Pine ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, which will be held March 30-April 2, 2009, in Las Vegas. Pine will be presented with the ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow Award at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2nd, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

"ShoWest has a history of recognizing major talents at the very earliest points in their rising careers," said Neuhauser. "Pine's impressive skills on the screen and stage will be sure to be showcased, with his performance as Captain Kirk, in the much anticipated release of Star Trek in theatres May 8, 2009. We could not be more excited to honor Chris Pine as this year's Male Star of Tomorrow."

This spring, Pine stars in Paramount Pictures' and Spyglass Entertainment's release Star Trek opening May 8, 2009. From director J.J. Abrams ("Mission Impossible III," "Lost" and "Alias") comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no one has gone before. Star Trek also stars John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, with Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy.

In addition to Star Trek, Pine will next be seen in the Paramount Vantage film Carriers, for director Alex Pastor. The film focuses on four friends fleeing a viral pandemic and the chaos that ensues. Pine's resume also includes his performances in Bottle Shock for writer/director Randall Miller, the ensemble drama Smokin' Aces for Joe Carnahan, and the romantic comedy Just My Luck, among others. Pine has received rave reviews for his theatre work that includes performances in Geffen Playhouse's production of Neil LaBute's Fat Pig and The Aethist, a one man show performed off Broadway.

ShoWest is the largest annual convention for the motion picture industry. It is the only international gathering devoted exclusively to the movie business and the single largest international gathering of motion picture professionals and theatre owners in the world. The 2009 edition of ShoWest will be held March 30 - April 2, 2009 at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas and is expected to draw more than 5,000 members of the motion picture industry.
