Single tickets for Michigan Opera Theatre's (MOT) 2018-19 season will go on sale next Monday, Aug. 20. The MOT opera series celebrates masterworks of literature turned opera, by authors like John Steinbeck and Voltaire. The MOT dance series will celebrate modern dance, following the movement through multiple generations. It also includes a program featuring ballet legend Alessandra Ferri as well as local favorite "The Nutcracker" with BalletMet.

Maine State Ballet presents a treat for the young and the young at heart this summer with an upcoming production of Hansel and Gretel, an original ballet created by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele, August 9 through August 18, at their 175 seat Lopez Theater.

Michigan Opera Theatre CEO and President Wayne S. Brown and Principal Conductor Stephen Lord today announced the company's 2018-19 opera season.  MOT's 48th opera season will be the second under Lord's artistic leadership and celebrates masterworks of literature turned opera, with "Eugene Onegin" (Pyotr Tchaikovsky), "Candide" (Leonard Bernstein) and "The Grapes of Wrath" (Ricky Ian Gordon/Michael Korie). The season also includes a staple of the opera repertoire, "The Barber of Seville" (Gioachino Rossini) and a fairytale opera, "Hansel and Gretel" (Engelbert Humperdinck). The season begins Sept. 29 with a gala concert featuring opera superstar Renee Fleming.  

Opera Orlando returns to the intimate setting of the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for part of their 2018-2019 season. Three productions comprise The Opera on the Main Stage series as the company presents its third season of fully staged operas. The company also will inaugurate its Opera on the Town series in 2018-2019, performances in various venues in Central Florida. Numerous special events also will be held.

The two operas in that series next season are an English adaption of Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and Three Decembers, a chamber work by Jake Heggie, one of today's most successful operatic composers. The Detour series and the season conclude with 'One Amazing Night,' a recital devoted largely to Puccini and Verdi.
