Bay Area Cabaret Pays Tribute to Marvin Hamlisch, 6/2

Bay Area Cabaret will conclude its 2012-2013 season by honoring the memory and legendary career of composer Marvin Hamlisch. Selections from his work (A Chorus Line, The Way We Were, They're Playing Our Song) will be performed by special guests including Broadway stars Lisa Vroman (The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd) and Karen Mason (Mamma Mia!, Sunset Boulevard), Grammy Award winner Billy Stritch, 2012 Bay Area Teen Idol winner Bobby Conte Thornton, Academy Award-winning songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and other guest artists to be announced. Having performed with Bay Area Cabaret for the grand re-opening of the Venetian Room in 2010, Mr. Hamlisch will always hold a special place in Bay Area Cabaret's history. This tribute to his legacy will take place on the late composer's 69th birthday, Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 8pm in the historic Venetian Room of the Fairmont San Francisco (950 Mason Street). The MainStreet Theatre Company has announced the cast for the first show of its 2012/2013 season: Pinkalicious the Musical. The musical, based on the best selling book for the younger set, is also written by book authors Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann, with Music by John Gregor. The story, about a little girl who eats too many cupcakes and turns pink, has been delighting youngsters since its publication in 2006, and the musical celebrates everything pink while reminding kids that sometimes too much of a good thing is... too much!. Pinkalicious, recommended for ages 5 and up, opens today, October 6th, and runs through the 21st, 2012. Get a first look at the production in the photos below!

Bay Area audiences will have the opportunity to experience a lost musical theatre treasure when 42nd Street Moon presents the first ever post-Broadway production of a musical collaboration by the composers of My Fair Lady and Brigadoon, CARMELINA. The show has a beautiful score by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane and a saucy book by Lerner and Joseph Stein, whose Fiddler on the Roof remains one of the world's most popular musicals, but CARMELINA nevertheless vanished from sight.
