Tonight, May 14, 2012, the League of Professional Theatre Women presents The Legacy Project, a celebration of Pioneering Women Producers, at the Martin E. Segal Theatre, The Graduate Center at the City University of New York (365 Fifth Avenue). Scheduled for the day after Mother's Day, this event will be an all-day tribute to the foremothers of the American stage.

Rehearsals began today (5/8) for Women's Project off-Broadway world premiere play titled from the famous Ellen Stewart quote We Play for The Gods, a the seven-playwright, four-director, three-producer and five-actor collaborative show.

Working Theater previously announced a reading of the poetry of US Poet Laureate Philip Levine. Readers include Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Jeffrey Eugenides and performers André De Shields, Gene Gillette and Lisa Ramirez tonight, May 7th at 7pm at the SEIU 32BJ building at 25 West 18th Street, on the 5th floor. La Mama E.T.C., the legendary downtown experimental arts organization currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, presents the American Human Beatbox Festival through today, May 6, 2012. Performances will be held at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) and as well as at The Club at La MaMa (74 E. 4 St.)

Women's Project will end its 34th season with an off-Broadway show of epic proportions when seven playwrights, four directors, three producers and five actors collaborate on one world premiere play titled from the famous Ellen Stewart quote We Play for The Gods. We Play for The Gods stars Annie Golden, Amber Gray, Alexandra Henrikson, Irene Sofia Lucio and Erika Rolfsud. It begins performances Friday, June 1, at 8:00pm, opens Monday, June 11, at 7:30pm for a run through Saturday, June 23, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street.

La MaMa presents H.M. Koutoukas' WHEN CLOWNS PLAY HAMLET, A 1964 Bitter Camp, with music composed by Joseph Blunt, directed by Ozzie Rodriguez. As part of the "Homecomings" Anniversary Season La MaMa is honoring Ellen Stewart, Harry Koutoukas and Tom O'Horgan. The production will be performed by members of The Great Jones Repertory Company May 24 thru June 3, 2012 in La MaMa's First Floor Theatre.

The works of the late, iconoclastic downtown theatre star, Warhol favorite and trailblazer of 'glitter rock,' Jackie Curtis will be featured in the dynamic new revue JUKEBOX JACKIE -- conceived and directed by Tony Award winner Scott Wittman and featuring the leading lights of today's downtown scene -- being given its world-premiere production by La MaMa at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) with preview performances starting May 24 prior to its official press opening Wednesday, May 30.

La MaMa will wrap up its 50th anniversary season with a its LA MAMA 50 BIG BASH on Sunday, June 24th with an evening of performances emceed by longtime La MaMa artist Andre DeShields at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place in Manhattan), it has been announced by Mia Yoo, Artistic Director of La MaMa, and Frank Carucci, President of the La MaMa Board of Directors. LA MAMA 50 BIG BASH begins at 6:00 p.m.

Murray Abraham.

Playwright/director Theodora Skipitares uses 25 larger than life puppets to reveal, celebrate, and explore the theatrical, philosophical, and moral relationship between the exiled Greek god Prometheus and the future implications of stem cell research in her musical puppet theater work, "PROMETHEUS Within." With an original score by Sxip Shirey, sung by members of Trevor Wilson and Vocal Ensemble, "PROMETHEUS Within" is premiering as part of La Mama's 50th anniversary celebration, April 13-29.

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) begins performances of the world premiere production FUTURITY: A MUSICAL BY THE LISPS, with music and lyrics by Cesar Alvarez with The Lisps; book by Molly Rice and Cesar Alvarez; directed by Sarah Benson.Performances run from Friday, March 16 through Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the A.R.T.'s second space, OBERON, at 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge.

La MaMa in association with Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre Company presents the World Premiere of Urban Odyssey, a dance puppet theatre piece conceived by Federico Restrepo and Denise Greber, designed, directed and choreographed by Federico Restrepo, with original music composed by Obie Award Winner Elizabeth Swados, and text by Elias Khoury. Loco7 is celebrating their 25th Anniversary season this year. Urban Odyssey, part of La MaMa's 50th Anniversary season, runs Off-Broadway through April 8, 2012 in a limited engagement at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre, located at 66 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & the Bowery in New York City.
