La MaMa will celebrate the conclusion of its 55th with "Dancing in The Street", a BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, May 20th from 11AM to 4PM in front of La MaMa's theatres on East 4th Street between Second Ave. and the Bowery (Ellen Stewart Way), it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director. 

When the 60 Pre K children at the University Settlement House on New York's Lower East Side built their own wall this past spring, its political message countered the one currently circulating through the halls of Congress. This wall, which symbolizes an embrace of all, was constructed from drawings that the children created to depict their family stories and fantasies. Their colorful works of art, drawn on cardboard sections were then connected and transformed into an interactive set created by visual artist Ben Heller for 'Welcome,' a new work choreographed and directed by the 2016 Jerome Robbins Award-winning choreographer Stefanie Batten Bland, the creative brains and heart behind the project. The original score is by Paul Damian Hogan.

Inspired by Ancient Cordoba and workshopped In Iraq, London, and New York, this international play returns to New York to continue a cultural conversation about freedom, identity, and the possibility of peaceful co-existence.

The welcome mat for artists from the four corners of the globe has shone brightly at La MaMa's theater entryway for 55 years, and for the past 12, the welcome has been extended to choreographers and dancers participating in the La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, which this season includes 17 dance companies and artists whose work asks important questions about the conditions of the world in which we are now living. The 2017 festival runs May 18-June 4.

F*It Club, the New York Innovative Award-winning film and theatre company, continues its annual series of short, commissioned world-premiere plays at the IRT Theater as part of their 3B Development Series in Manhattan's West Village with The Spring Fling: Rebound, seven new short plays by Ngozi Anyanwu (Good Grief), Lucy Boyle (The Blue Deep), Liza Birkenmeier (Radio Island), Ryan King (Burying Augustus), Dan Moyer (Half Moon Bay), Matthew Paul Olmos (So Go The Ghosts of Mexico), and Leah Nanako Winkler (Kentucky).

A room in a country house sings of those who have lived there over a span of seventy years. Performed with striking theatricality by the OBIE-award winning Talking Band, The Room Sings, uses an array of genres to tell the stories of four interlocking sets of people. As their individual stories unfold they intertwine and illuminate each other.

Mac's 24-hour, 246-song marathon performance, A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, was hailed by Wesley Morris in the New York Times as "one of the greatest experiences of my life" and was recently named the 2017 recipient of the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History.

This limited Off-Broadway engagement continues through March 26th.   The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is enjoying an extended run at La Mama after being developed at the Actors Studio as part of the Theater & Social Justice program, using Actors Studio members.

KIDNAP ROAD - a new play by Catherine Filloux, based on the real-life story of a female presidential candidate held in captivity for six years by terrorists in Colombia - will be given its world premiere production this spring, presented by La MaMa at its First Floor Theatre (74 E. 4 St.), with previews beginning April 27 prior to the official press opening on April 30.
