Looking Glass Theatre, celebrating almost 20 years of productions strengthening the voice of women in theater and the arts, proudly presents Three By the Sea, a playful new children's show written by Donna Latham, a recent playwright of the Looking Glass Writer/Director Forum. Julia Martin, a former Forum director, leads the production which opens Saturday, March 5 and runs through Sunday, April 10 with performances Saturdays at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children 12 and under. Group tickets available; TDF vouchers are accepted. Running time is approximately 50 minutes without intermission; show is appropriate for ages 3-10.

How remarkably tragic it is that the triumphant opening night of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, perhaps the greatest comedy ever penned in the English language, was also the event that led to the author's personal downfall and eventual public and financial ruin.

The Broadway community mourns the loss of Romulus Linney and Ellen Stewart, who both recently died at the ages of 80 and 91 respectively. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in their memory on Wednesday, January 19th, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

No actor may claim to have worked in New York theatre unless he has worked at La MaMa. I offer the following anecdote, that you may better appreciate my writing about Ellen Stewart in mythic terms.

Ellen Stewart, the legendary Founder and Director of the La MaMa E.T.C. -- the theatre that began in October 1961, and to this day continues to be of great importance to world culture - died on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. Ms. Stewart died of natural causes after an extended illness, according to Mia Yoo, co-artistic director of La MaMa, E.T. C. (Experimental Theatre Club). Born November 7, 1919 in Chicago, Ms. Stewart was 91 at the time of her death.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) and La MaMa proudly present an encore benefit performance of the Belarus Free Theater's acclaimed BEING HAROLD PINTER on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 17 at 7 PM, at The Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street).
