Palm Beach Dramaworks Showcases Talented South Florida Teens

Nine gifted local students are showcasing their talents at Palm Beach Dramaworks in three performances of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's Edges, the first production by TheAcademy@pbd, a new program that provides teens with classes and the opportunity to perform onstage in a professional setting. The musical about self-discovery and coming of age, by the Tony and Oscar-winning composers of Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, and The Greatest Showman, runs from June 28-30.

Palm Beach Dramaworks And GableStage Announce Co-Production

Palm Beach Dramaworks Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and GableStage Producing Artistic Director Joseph Adler are pleased to announce that their companies will be working together to co-produce the world premiere of Ordinary Americans, a play by Joseph McDonough based on actual events in the lives of Gertrude Berg and Philip Loeb, stars of television's groundbreaking sitcom,The Goldbergs, which premiered on CBS in 1949. As previously announced, Ordinary Americans will be staged at PBD from December 6 - 29, 2019. It will then move on to GableStage from January 18 - February 16, 2020. Hayes will direct, and South Florida favorite Elizabeth Dimon will star as Berg. The rest of the cast and artistic team will be announced at a later date.

It's October 4, 1965, and Pope Paul VI is spending 14 hours in New York City, marking the first visit by a reigning pope to the United States. Millions line the streets to greet him and zookeeper Artie Shaughnessy, a wannabe Hollywood songwriter with big dreams and no discernible talent, joins the throngs in the hope that a papal blessing will help propel him out of Queens, away from his mentally ill wife, Bananas, and into a new life in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, Bunny Flingus. 

BWW Review: THE SPITFIRE GRILL at Palm Beach Dramaworks

Palm Beach Dramaworks does not disappoint with their decision to add a musical to their regular subscription season. "The Spitfire Grill" by James Valcq (Book and Music) ?and Fred Alley (Book and Lyrics) and based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff, in short, is a hit. Fitting in perfectly with their mission of 'Theatre To Think About', this realistic and grounded show is so engaging that it's impossible to keep your own emotions in check.

Palm Beach Dramaworks Presents THE SPITFIRE GRILL

The Spitfire Grill, a warm and uplifting show by James Valcq (book and music) and Fred Alley (book and lyrics) about starting over and second chances, forgiveness and redemption, becomes the first musical to be produced by Palm Beach Dramaworks as part of its subscription season. This internationally beloved work opens on February 1 and runs through February 24, with specially priced previews on January 30 and 31. Bruce Linser directs.

SUMMER SHORTS, America's Short Play Festival, Returns To The Arsht Center! Begins May 31

City Theatre (@citytheatremia) and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) are proud to present SUMMER SHORTS, America's Short Play Festival. Playing May 31-July 1, 2018 in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House) and led by City Theatre Artistic Director Margaret M. Ledford, SUMMER SHORTS is an annual theatrical celebration that showcases the diversity of Miami through a variety of new short plays and musicals.

Social anthropologist Ken (Carlos Orizondo) has lived with them, studied them, and written a book about them and he's trying to help them survive. So he brings in a genetic anthropologist Jillian (an outstanding Betsy Graver) to draw their blood and from this discover why the diabetes.

Palm Beach Dramaworks Presents THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN by Martin McDonagh

Dreams are in short supply on the desolate island of Inishmaan, particularly for the sensitive, physically challenged Billy Claven in Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan. So when word arrives that an American filmmaker is coming to the neighboring island of Inishmore to make a motion picture, Billy goes after a part in the movie, hoping for a trip to Hollywood and escape from the cruelty and bleakness that engulf him. McDonagh's darkly comic work opens at Palm Beach Dramaworks on May19 and continues through June 4, with specially priced previews on May 17 and 18.
