Palm Beach Dramaworks Welcomes Bruce Linser as Manager of The Dramaworkshop

Palm Beach Dramaworks is pleased to announce that educator, director, and actor Bruce Linser has joined the staff as Manager of The Dramaworkshop, the company's lab for developing new plays.

"I'm honored to be a part of PBD, which has earned its well-deserved reputation as a premier regional theatre company by consistently producing extraordinary and thought-provoking work," said Linser, who is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all Dramaworkshop activity. "As a theatre practitioner, it's exciting to collaborate with a family of like-minded artists. As a lover of live theatre, it's wonderful to be able to keep the art form alive and thriving by championing new voices and new works."

Launched in 2014, The Dramaworkshop receives play submissions each season over a period of three months, November through January. A select number of scripts are then chosen by a company of resident artists to move on to various phases of development, including staged readings, workshops, and developmental productions, which are held each year at PBD's Perlberg Studio Theatre.

This season, The Dramaworkshop received 275 submissions, of which 89 were chosen for further exploration. Linser and the resident artists are now in the process of determining the top dozen scripts. In early May, they will gather to pick the six best, which will be part of a read-a-thon that enables playwrights to hear their words read aloud by professional actors. Some of these plays will then be selected for further development.

"We are so delighted that Bruce is now part of the PBD family," said Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl. "His varied background gives him unique insight into theatre, which makes him ideal for running The Dramaworkshop."

Bruce Linser is a resident director with MNM Productions at the Rinker Playhouse at the Kravis Center and a frequent guest director at Florida Atlantic University's theatre program. He taught musical theatre for six years at Dreyfoos School of the Arts and was dean of the theatre program for three years. He is currently an adjunct professor of theatre at FAU, Lynn University, and Broward College. As an actor, Linser appeared in the national tour of Big River, and has been seen Off-Broadway, in regional theatre, and internationally aboard cruise ships for SilverSea and Crystal Cruises. Locally he has performed with PBD, Caldwell Theatre Company, FAU Summer Rep, Florida Stage, GableStage, Island City Stage, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, New Theatre, and Take Heed Theater Company. He is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
