New eBook on Novelist Elena Ferrante is Released

'Naples Little Women,' first critical study of the Italian novelist Elena Ferrante, published by Penington Press. Elena Ferrante's fiction covers the psychic landscape of women who come of age in post-World War II Italy, who struggle to escape poverty and juggle the demands of career and family. Her narrator's voice is at once ferocious, intimate, and uncensored. Most remarkable for our media-obsessed age is that the author's identity is a mystery as compelling as one of her plots. This critical study of her seven novels by Professor Mullenneaux integrates Ferrante's own thoughts on her books from La frantumaglia (2003) with their critical reception since 1992. Chapters are dedicated to each novel and to the author's signature themes - mothers and daughters, female friendship, and Naples as a 'city in spite of itself' - to illuminate and extend Ferrante's unique contribution to world literature. This volume is an essential resource for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of one of Italy's best-loved contemporary writers. ISBN: 978-0-9704296-4-3. $24.99. Bookworks Presents Shelf Awareness for Readers: Indie Success Story

Elena Ferrante is a phenomenon. The Italian novelist has used a pen name since the publication of her first novel, The Days of Abandonment; she avers that 'books, once they are written, have no need of their authors.' Speculation about her identity is widespread, driven by the fervor of her fans and adulatory reviews. Her four Neapolitan novels are wildly successful: Book 4, The Story of the Lost Child, debuted at #3 on the New York Timesbestseller list late last month; book 1, My Brilliant Friend, hit the list in 2012. All four books (Book 2,The Story of a New Name; Book 3, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay) are national Indie Bestsellers.
