Today, The Cleveland Orchestra announces its 105th season of concerts at Severance Music Center from September 2022 to May 2023. Marking the 21st year of the ensemble’s acclaimed partnership with Music Director Franz Welser-Möst, showcasing extraordinary artistry and more ways of sharing music-making across multiple platforms. Highlights include 20 guest artist debuts, acclaimed guest conductors, and thirteen works being performed for the first time by The Cleveland Orchestra, including four world premieres and one U.S. premiere. The Southbank Centre has today revealed its Autumn/Winter 2022/23 classical music programme – the first edition under the curatorship of Head of Classical Music Toks Dada since arriving at the Southbank Centre.

This Sunday, 6 March 2022, 7 pm, the Bayerische Staatsoper will celebrate the premiere of Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes in a production by Stefan Herheim. With Edward Gardner conducting the Bayerische Staatsorchester, the performers on stage at the Nationaltheater include Stuart Skelton as Peter Grimes and Rachel Willis-Sørensen in a role debut as Ellen Orford.

Edward Gardner, recently hailed by The Times (London) for the 'sheer vivacity' of his music-making, has been appointed Music Director of the Norwegian Opera & Ballet. He will assume the position of Artistic Advisor from 1 February 2022 before beginning his tenure as Music Director on 1 August 2024.

The Southbank Centre has today announced a new addition to its programme for the pioneering festival of new music, SoundState. Taking place over five days from 30 March until 3 April, SoundState will exclusively champion new works with paid-for and free concerts by performers and composers who are radically reimagining what it means to make music in the 21st century. 

Following the return of live classical music performances in September, today the Southbank Centre unveils its Spring/Summer programme (February - June 2022), featuring stand out projects from great artists, thought-provoking world premieres and inventive ways of looking at modern masterpieces.

In 1955 Michael Tippett introduced his first opera The Midsummer Marriage to a grey, post-war society desperate for some joy and optimism. It has divided the critics, with detractors pointing to the awkward libretto and fans in raptures with the sumptuous score. It is certainly a huge piece for the London Philharmonic Orchestra's new Principal Conductor, Edward Gardner, to conduct as his debut. However, the result was enthralling.

Los Angeles Opera’s presentation of Oedipus Rex by Igor Stravinsky is available online from June 17 to July 18, 2021. The libretto is by Jean Cocteau. The cast includes: Oedipus, Russell Thomas; Jocasta, J’nai Bridges; Creon, John Relyea; Tiresias, Morris Robinson; Narrator, Stephen Fry; Conductor, James Conlon.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra today announced the appointment of Russian-born Elena Dubinets to the role of Artistic Director from September 2021. She joins the Orchestra from the US, where over a period of 15 years she made an outstanding impact on the artistic direction and vision of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Harmonia Mundi will be releasing a recording on May 28, 2021 of Samuel Barber's Toccata Festiva (catalog numberHMM902611) featuring GRAMMY award-winning organist Paul Jacobs as soloist with the Lucerne Symphony under conductor James Gaffigan. The performance was recorded live in concert in Lucerne, November 2018.
