New Brunswick Performing Arts Center to Break Ground on $170 Million, 23-Story Project

The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center project, a public-private collaboration among New Brunswick Development Corporation (Devco), the City of New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, New Brunswick Cultural Center, Rutgers University, Pennrose Properties, and New Brunswick Parking Authority, along with 11 other groups and organizations, will host a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.

Hell in a Handbag presents QUINCEANERA Benefit at The Edge Theater Celebrating 15 Years!

Hell in a Handbag Productions is turning 15 so what better way to celebrate than to throw a QUINCEA ERA-style party?! Handbag's annual benefit will feature FUN as big as the Quincea era gowns ensemble members will be donning. The evening will include a Mexican buffet, cocktails (including our favorite Cervezas and an old family Sangria recipe) games, a silent and live auction, the world's greatest raffle, and a live performance of Handbag highlights (and lowlights) spanning the past 15 years!

American Blues Theater to present THIS WONDERFUL LIFE

American Blues Theater continues its 2017-2018 Season with the Chicago premiere of Steve Murray's This Wonderful Life and directed by Ensemble member Carmen Roman, starring Founding Ensemble Member James Leaming. This Wonderful Life runs November 2-26, 2017 at The Edge Theater, 5451 N Broadway in Chicago. The official press opening is November 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

Japan Society Launches NOH-NOW Series as Part of 110th Anniversary Lineup

In celebration of Japan Society's 110th anniversary, the Society's Performing Arts Program presents the NOH-NOW Series featuring four extraordinary events in dance and theater: Luca Veggetti's Left-Right-Left, Hiroshi Sugimoto's Rikyu-Enoura, SITI Company's Hanjo and Satoshi Miyagi's Mugen Noh Othello; and the North American Premiere of Moto Osada's opera, Four Nights of Dream, which launches the Fall 2017 Season in September. These events bring together celebrated artists from the U.S. and Japan, delivering world class cultural offerings while continuing Japan Society's mission to deepen mutual understanding between the two nations into the Society's twelfth decade.

Space 55's presents a Take on Van Gogh: EAR

Space 55 kicks off its TWELFTH season with 'Ear', a theatrical world premiere! Written by local author and Space 55 ensemble member Ashley Naftule, 'Ear' is a surreal love story inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. After giving his girlfriend his ear as an anniversary gift, a troubled man ends up in a mental hospital. Surrounded by patients and doctors that are even crazier than he is, he also has to struggle with the strange voices ringing in his head. As for his girlfriend: she forgot to get rid of his ear. And now she's starting to hear crazy things too...

BWW Review: Ambitious, Controversial REFUGIA at Guthrie Theater

"Refugia" is a Latin term meaning "an area where special circumstances have enabled survival after extinction in surrounding areas." The adventurous theater explorers of The Moving Company (themselves displaced from the renowned Theatre de la Jeune Lune, which closed in 2006) have devised multiple riffs on this idea and related themes, pushing the boundaries of narrative and perhaps, too, of the mainstage Guthrie audiences.
