Chicago Shakespeare Theater to Celebrate Life of Bernie Sahlins, 9/30

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) and The Second Cityannounce today the celebration of the magical life of Bernie Sahlins on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Courtyard Theater of Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, 800 East Grand Avenue.

Earthfall Dance Company Presents CHELSEA HOTEL, 10/1, 12/5

Broadway In Chicago to Dim Marquee Lights in Honor of Bernie Sahlins Tonight

'In keeping with a long-standing Broadway tradition, Broadway In Chicago wanted to dim the marquee lights to provide Chicago with an appropriate moment to reflect on Bernie Sahlins' lifetime in the theatre,' said Lou Raizin, President of Broadway In Chicago. 'Bernie Sahlins was a Chicago Treasure who contributed volumes to Chicago Theatre Artists for decades and he will be greatly missed.'

Second City Co-Founder Bernie Sahlins Dies at 90

Bernard Sahlins died peacefully at his home after a short illness. In 1959, Sahlins founded The Second City with Howard Alk and Paul Sills and served as the theatre's longtime producer and director until 1984. He produced multiple television productions in the UK and the USA, as well as SCTV in Canada. For the past eight years, he worked with the Poetry Foundation directing staged readings - the most recent of which was Comic Poetry. Honors include the Sergel Prize for playwright, several Jeff Awards for directing and the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Chicago for his contributions to the theatre.

Nylon Fusion Theatre to Debut MARINA and MATA HARI at Planet Connections, 6/15

Nylon Fusion Theatre Company presents two world-premiere one-act works by Don Nigro Marina and Mata Hari, at Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, about two women who bravely faced personal battles as they were caught up in the turmoil of the two world wars. Directed by Ivette Dumeng, and starring Tatyana Kot in the title roles, with Curtis James Nielsen, Marina and Mata Hari will be performed together at the Robert Moss Theatre at 440 Lafayette Street beginning tomorrow, June 15th.

Burton, Estrella, Chazan and Osmundson Receive 2013 Pell Awards Honors Tonight

Trinity Repertory Company previously announced that three local Rhode Island residents would be receiving Pell Awards this year in addition to Kate Burton, the recipient of the 2013 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The 17th annual Pell Awards will be held tonight, June 10, 2013 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.

Lantern Theater Company Announces 20th Anniversary Season

In the midst of another record-breaking year of sold out performances and extended runs, Lantern Theater Companyannounces the productions that will comprise its 20th anniversary season in 2013/14. The season will begin with the Philadelphia premiere of Jane Austen's Emma in an adaptation by Michael Bloom, directed by Lantern Associate Artistic Director Kathryn MacMillan. During the holidays, the Lantern will present a world premiere adaptation of Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales, a co-creation by Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon and Philadelphia creator/performer Sebastienne Mundheim. In the spring, Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon directs William Shakespeare's epic tragedy Julius Caesar. The season will close with the Philadelphia premiere of South African playwright Athol Fugard's newest play, The Train Driver.

Do Not Go Gentle Productions, in collaboration with New York City College of Technology (City Tech) Theatreworks, presents a revival of Dylan, Sidney Michaels' 1964 play focusing on the final years of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' life. Directed by newly appointed Naked Angels Artistic Director Liz Carlson, Dylan performances are tonight, April 29 through May 11 at 7:30pm, in a limited engagement at the New York City College of Technology's Voorhees Theatre, located at 186 Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Combat Veterans and Scholars Set for Post-Show Talk Backs at Aquila's HERAKLES at BAM, Beg. Today

As part of Aquila Theatre's National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Special Award 3 year public program, Ancient Greeks / Modern Lives, four post-performance talks will be held after each performance of Herakles at BAM Fisher. Noted scholars will join combat veterans who have been involved in the project to discuss the themes of the play as they relate to the experience of the veteran community in America today and the wider society within which they live.
