Theo Ubique's RENT to Extend Through Mid-May After All

After having to cancel its extension of Jonathan Larson's musical RENT just days after it was announced, an extension is now back on, according to the Theo Ubique's Artistic Director Fred Anzevino.

On the heels of the news that Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's new musical adaptation of FREAKY FRIDAY will hit the stage in Washington, D.C. this fall, theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) just announced it has secured worldwide licensing rights for the show and will allow professional -- and eventually amateur theatres -- to produce the musical after its debut.

MTI Acquires Rights to DADDY LONG LEGS

Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured worldwide licensing rights to Off-Broadway's DADDY LONG LEGS by Tony Award -nominated composer-lyricist Paul Gordon (JANE EYRE) and Tony-winning librettist-director John Caird (LES MISERABLES). The new two-actor musical is an adaptation of Jean Webster's 1912 novel, which also inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire.

Music Theatre International Chairman and CEO Freddie Gershon and his wife Myrna hosted eight outstanding educators from schools and performing arts centers around the country for four days of classes and activities honoring them for working to make a difference for their students and communities through the process of staging musical theatre productions in their schools and educational theatre groups.  The event known as the 6th Annual FREDDIE G FELLOWSHIP culminated in a gala dinner at Chez Josephine on July 11th.  Joining the festivities were Broadway greats Bernadette Peters and Brian d'Arcy James. GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE was the most-nominated show of the season, with 10 nominations and the winningest new show, taking home 4 Tonys (BEST MUSICAL, BOOK, DIRECTION, COSTUMES). It also earned seven Drama Desk Awards (including BEST MUSICAL), four Outer Critics Circle Awards (including BEST MUSICAL), and one Drama League Award (BEST MUSICAL).

NYC Parks Deputy Commissioner Robert L. Garafola and Bronx Parks Commissioner Hector M. Aponte today joined State Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, Councilman-elect Andrew Cohen, and members of Community Board 7 and the Friends of Williambsbridge Oval to cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center in the Bronx. The Recreation Center underwent extensive interior and exterior renovations totaling $5.2 million. NYC Parks and community partner organizations celebrated the center's opening day with a 'Kids and Adult Fitness Festival' featuring a variety of free activities, events, and prizes.
