Faye Driscoll, hailed as “a postmillenium postmodern wild woman” (Deborah Jowitt, The Village Voice) for her work that is a “tour de force of performance and direction” (Brian Seibert, The New York Times), receives the 12th Annual Jacob's Pillow Dance Award. The Bessie Award-winning choreographer, director, and alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow joins a group of honorees that includes Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar of Big Dance Theater, Kyle Abraham of Abraham.in.Motion, Michelle Dorrance of Dorrance Dance, Camille A. Brown of Camille A. Brown & Dancers, and Liz Lerman of Dance Exchange. The Award will be formally presented as part of the Jacob's Pillow Season Opening Gala on June 16, 2018 followed by the presentation of Driscoll's work at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival for the second consecutive summer, August 1–5.
George Mason University is a bit of a trek when discussing arts organizations in the DMV area. If Saturday night's School of Dance Fete and Gala Concert is any indicator, then this trek is worth making. Celebrating the strides Mason's (still young) dance program has made in recent years, the evening was a unique combination of educational panels and dance showcases. With four moving performances capping off the evening, Mason's dance program cements itself as one to not be underestimated.
Known for its "powerfully engaging" (New York Arts) and "contemporary and fresh" (Theatre Is Easy) choreography, Ariel Rivka Dance (ARD) collaborates with the acclaimed Amy Marshall Dance Company and choreographer/dancer Chanel DaSilva for a season of provocative dance dedicated to empowering female expression. An audience favorite for its accessible, graceful signature style of movement, the all-female ARD celebrates its 11th season under the helm of choreographer Ariel Grossman. 10 Hairy Legs, the all male repertory dance company, dèbuts at Baryshnikov Arts Center for its sixth consecutive New York Season for four performances June 7 -10. The program features World Premieres by Bessie Award Nominee and company member Nicholas Sciscione, and Yin Yue. Works by Al Blackstone, Raja Feather Kelly and Christopher Williams complete the program.

Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts, the nation's preeminent arts summer day camp, today announced its new Choreographic Institute, an innovative new program launching in Summer 2018. Students in the inaugural Choreographic Institute will be taught by some of the most visionary choreographers today including Brian Brooks, Beth Gill, and Angie Pittman. Open via application and geared towards those with a passion for choreography and dance making, the seven-week program will act as an incubator for young dancemakers who want to expand and develop their choreographic voices.
