Goodspeed Musicals will welcome Anika Chapin to its staff beginning in January, 2018.

The 13th Annual Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals, produced by Goodspeed Musicals' Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre, kicks off its much-anticipated three-day festival of brand-new works on Friday, January 12, 2018 at The Goodspeed with a staged reading of the rousing new musical Five Points by Ethan D. Pakchar (Music) and Douglas Lyons (Music and Lyrics), and McKnight Fellowship winner Harrison David Rivers (Book).

A twenty-year musical theatre tradition will be streamed live for the first time this year.  New Musicals Inc. will host the 20th STAGES FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS from July 28th through July 30th in North Hollywood, and streamcast it across the globe.

Founding Executive Director Kathy Evans announced the 19 writers and 9 new musicals selected for development at this summer's Rhinebeck Writers Retreat.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Singer/songwriter Benjamin Scheuer has been sharing his most recent creation - his autobiographical, one-man show THE LION playing in various cities in the US (and the UK) the last two-plus years. Benjamin will be completing his current tour with his Los Angeles premiere performances at the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse.

This year's writers include New York Drama Critics award winner Brian Crawley, Tony nominee Hunter Foster, 2016 Kleban award winner Daniel Goldstein, Susan Smith Blackburn finalist Michele Lowe, Arlen award winner Georgia Stitt, Fred Ebb award winner Adam Gwon, and New Dramatists Loewe Award winner Sarah Hammond. The 9 musicals were selected from among 95 applicants by a distinguished panel: Kent Nicholson of Playwrights Horizons, Donna Lynn Hilton of Goodspeed Musicals, Barbara Pasternack of Theatreworks USA, Steve Stettler of Weston Playhouse, Mara Isaacs of Octopus Theatricals, Drama Desk nominated composer Neil Bartram, and Robert Zukerman, former Director of Theatre at the New York State Council on the Arts.

Today's (October 9) State of the ARTS heard weekly on WPKN-FM (89.5) will originate from the campus of Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut. Richard Pheneger, producer/co-host of State of the ARTS, and co-host Peggy Nelson will welcome members of the cast of the theatre's new production of A WONDERFUL LIFE as well as administrative personnel of Goodspeed Musicals.
