Stuart Meltzer's BETTER THAN DAMN GOOD Premiere Reading At Mizner Park

Parade Productions, Boca Raton's newest theatre company, will follow up their wildly successful debut production of Donald Margulies Brooklyn Boy with a premiere reading of South Florida playwright Stuart Meltzer's comedy, Better Than Damn Good. The reading will take place on April 23rd, at 7:30 p.m., at the Studio at Mizner Park in Boca Raton.

Die Fotojournalistin Sarah Goodwin kehrt verwundet aus dem Irak in ihr Loft in Brooklyn zuruck. Ihre Verletzungen - ein Bein und einen Arm kann sie kaum bewegen und ihr Gesicht ist von Schrapnellnarben gezeichnet - sind noch nicht verheilt. Ihr Lebensgefahrte, James Dodd, selbst Journalist und Auslandskorrespondent, kummert sich fursorglich um sie. Doch hinter seiner Rolle als aufopfernder Partner, blitzt das schlechte Gewissen auf, denn er hat Sarah allein im Irak zuruckgelassen. Die beiden erwarten den gemeinsamen Freund und Sarahs Mentor, Richard, zu Besuch. Im Schlepptau hat dieser seine neue Freundin Mandy - blutjung, naiv und „scharf", wie James bald unverblumt bemerkt. Die Eventplanerin, von Natur aus „dauerbegeistert" und kindlich wohlwollend, wirkt neben den beiden zynischen und vom Leben schwer gezeichneten Journalisten vollig deplaziert, was ihr sehr wohl bewusst ist. Sarah, die vor etwa zwanzig Jahren als Praktikantin selbst eine Affare mit Richard hatte, ist vollig vor den Kopf gestoßen, und versucht dies in ihrem leicht reizbaren Zustand auch nicht wirklich zu verbergen. Doch Mandy bleibt nicht der einzige Reibepunkt an diesem Tag, schnell eskaliert das Treffen und lasst zahlreiche ungeloste Konflikte zum Vorschein treten.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2012/13 Subscription Season, including a Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere and the work of fifteen ensemble members. The season begins in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre with David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Up next, ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro directs The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. In April 2013, ensemble member Tina Landau directs the Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere of Head of Passes by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney, their first collaboration since the widely-praised The Brother/Sister Plays (2010). The season concludes with Belleville by Amy Herzog, directed by Anne Kauffmann.

Playhouse on the Square has chosen the shows that will run at The Circuit Playhouse for 2012-2013. The season for the venue at 51 S. Cooper will open with Good People, a play about a single-mother struggling to make ends meet in Boston's Southie neighborhood. Written by David Lindsay-Abaire, a Pulitzer Prize winner for Rabbit Hole, Good People revolves around the dynamic between the lead character and the former high school sweetheart who she thinks can turn her life around when they reconnect.
