New Adaptation of ANTIGONE to Be Presented by Local Teens at Raleigh Little Theatre

Raleigh Little Theatre presents "Antigone," directed by Meredyth Pederson Cooper, from July 19-28 in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre. This version of Sopochles' famous drama was adapted by Don Taylor and produced at the National Theatre in London in 2012.

Following a near sell out season at Assembly at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe, critically acclaimed actress Alison Skilbeck crosses the English Channel to France with her one-woman play Mrs Roosevelt Flies to London, with a performance at Le Colombier Theatre, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Tarn on 3 June for Friends of English Theatre.

The musical theatre scene is filled with adaptations of Hollywood movies, to the point of overflowing. Some of these musical stage versions of popular movies have not translated well (Ghost and Flashdance, I'm looking at you). On the other hand, a number of them have gone on to become highly successful Broadway musicals, winning a number of Tony awards as well as critical and audience raves. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is part of the latter group and is now getting a breezy and extremely fun production at Sooner Theatre in Norman.

In a play more than 2000 years old written by Euripides titled The Trojan Women, Dale Gutzman's Off the Wall Theater (OTW) reimagines their Women of Troy set in the 1920's. Gutzman worked several years to adapt the play inspired by a Don Taylor translation revealing the aftermath of the infamous Trojan War through a women's eyes, the prisoners and refugees shipped to another city. These were the women who survived when their brothers, fathers, husbands and sons were slaughtered by the Athenians, after the legendary Trojan horse 'birthed blood' that flowed into Troy's streets.

Critically acclaimed actress Alison Skilbeck kicks off a spring 2016 tour of her one-woman play Mrs Roosevelt Flies to London, at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on 5 February. The production continues on to The Mill Studio at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on 3 - 5 March, Omnibus Clapham on 7 April, and finally at Mercury Theatre, Colchester on the 6-7 May. With special permission from the Roosevelt Estate to use Eleanor's diary and writings, the play captures the spirit, humour, and passion of one of the most extraordinary women of the 20th century, on her daring visit to Britain in 1942.
