IT'S ALIVE! From Mel Brooks and the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes the new monster musical comedy Young Frankenstein, opening September 12 at Lakewood Theatre Company. Performances continue through October 19, 2014. Young Frankenstein features story by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. It is based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Brooks, who has described it as his best film. Different Stages continues its 2013 - 2014 season with Preston Jones' comedy Last Meeting of the Knights of the White Magnolia. A fraternity of Bradleyville's 'good ole boys,' which meets in the now decrepit Cattleman's Hotel, the Knights of the White Magnolia has long since lost sight of its espoused concern with patriotism and racial purity and has become an excuse for a handful of cronies to share a game of dominoes and a spot of liquid refreshment. Having dwindled steadily in membership, the lodge has unaccountably found a new recruit from a neighboring town, and his appearance gives the remaining members a chance to resurrect their ancient 'mystic' initiation rite, an event which, for all its intentional seriousness, becomes one of the wildest, funniest scenes imaginable. However, in the end the inevitable disillusionment sets in sending the would-be applicant scurrying for home and leaving the others to contemplate the wreckage and loss of still another glory that once was.

On Saturday, June 30, 2012, Lakewood Theatre Company/Lakewood Center for the Arts held its annual meeting and OTAS (Oregon Theatrical Awards Society) presentation at the Lakewood Center for the Arts to celebrate the closing of its 59th season of plays and its 41st annual OTAS Awards. Emcee for the evening was Bill Warner, a past President of Lakewood's Board of Directors.

As we move into the second half of August, I trust you will want to plan on seeing at least a couple of the theatre and live performance productions that are being presented at any number of the entertainment venues here on the idyllic California Central Coast!

The Secret Garden, with stage direction by Kirk Mouser and musical direction by Alan D. Lytle, is the last show in Lakewood Theatre Company's 2011-12 season. The production opens May 6 and will continue through Sunday, June 12, 2011. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 PM, Sundays, at 7:00 PM (May 8, 15 and 22), and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM (May 15, 22, 29, June 5 and 12).
