Today in 1990, Aspects of Love opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, where it ran for 377 performances. Aspects of Love is a musical with a book and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Don Black and Charles Hart. Based on the novella of the same name by David Garnett, the piece focuses on the romantic entanglements of actress Rose Vibert, her admiring fan Alex Dillingham, his underage cousin Jenny, his uncle George, and George's mistress, sculptress Giulietta Trapani, over a period of 17 years.

In Sunset Boulevard, audiences see that the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood has changed, but its egos and sometimes anomalous nature have stayed the same. This musical, now playing at CM PAC in Oakdale through April 15, gives us peek into the life of one of Hollywood's biggest stars as she falls into a pit of delusion.

The original Broadway cast recording of Frank Wildhorn's BONNIE AND CLYDE is set for release by Broadway Records on April 24, 2012. Amazon.com is currently accepting pre-orders. The cast and crew recently gathered at the Little Times Square Theatre where they got a first listen of the new album.

Contra Costa Musical Theatre will add another local premiere when it presents Andrew Lloyd Webber's lushly romantic Sunset Boulevard at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts, March 16 through April 15, 2012. Andrew Lloyd Webber is developing a musical about the Stephen Ward, the man who introduced call girl Christine Keeler to war secretary John Profumo. The resulting Profumo Affair scandal began the end of Harold MacMillan's government in 1960s Britain. According to a post by Michael Riedel on nypost.com, SUNSET BOULEVARD scriptwriter Christopher Hampton may be asked to write the script for Lloyd Webber's new project.

Today in 1987, Starlight Express opened at the Gershwin Theatre, where it ran for 761 performances. Starlight Express is a rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music), Richard Stilgoe (lyrics) and Arlene Phillips (choreography), with later revisions by Don Black (lyrics) and David Yazbek (music and lyrics for the 2nd US tour). The story follows a child's dream in which his toy train set comes to life; famously the actors perform wearing roller skates.

Jonathan Ansell, well known from The X Factor pop opera group G4, will play the lead role of Charles Darnay in a new musical version of A Tale of Two Cities, running at The Charing Cross Theatre from 5 April until 12 May. The full cast will be announced shortly.

A Song Cycle for Soho, running at Soho Theatre from 27 February until 3 March, is a musical song cycle that explores Soho's rich history.

Director Joe Dowling today announced the three plays that will comprise the Guthrie's 2012 celebration of prolific British playwright, screenwriter and director Christopher Hampton. A Guthrie commission of Appomattox, a new play based upon Hampton's original 2007 opera collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will be joined by Tales from Hollywood and Total Eclipse.

A Song Cycle for Soho, running at Soho Theatre from 27 February until 3 March, is a musical song cycle that explores Soho's rich history.
