The Apothetae and Lark Initiative to Present TELETHON!

The Apothetae, a theater company dedicated to the production of full-length plays that explore and illuminate the 'Disabled Experience,' and The Lark, an international theater laboratory based in New York City, are thrilled to announce their partnership in launching The Apothetae and Lark Initiative.

Nikki M. James, Jose Llana and Andrew Kober to Lead the Public's TWELFTH NIGHT Musical Adaptation

The Public Theater will kick off the 2016-17 season in September with a free Public Works musical adaptation of TWELFTH NIGHT, conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub, with music and lyrics by Shaina Taub. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, TWELFTH NIGHT will once again feature over 200 actors and community members alongside five equity actors, including this year Nikki M. James as Viola and Jose Llana as Orsino.

People's Light Opens Conversations in Fifth Season of COMMUNITY MATTERS

Amid the current fractured national landscape - where political and cultural tensions have many people deeply angered, saddened, and retreating to their own ideological camps - the grassroots reading and discussion series, Community Matters at People's Light aims to spark conversation about relevant issues in our community with a diverse array of perspectives and voices. Performed readings of new plays are the centerpiece of each evening, followed by a discussion with community partners, special guests, artists, and audiences. The fifth season of Community Matters features the reading and discussion of plays focused on the American work-force, mental illness, and the representation of race, gender, and sexuality in art.

2016 Mimi Awards Date Set; Honoree to be Announced in September

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced that the Ninth Annual "Mimi" Awards will be presented on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Lincoln Center Theater.  The "Mimi" Awards are presented annually to honor the outstanding artistry and accomplishments of some of the most gifted American playwrights.

Cast Set for PLAYWRIGHTS FOR A CAUSE Benefit for New Yorkers Against Gun Violence

The annual Playwrights for a Cause will be Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at the Atlantic Theatre (Linda Gross Theater), 336 West 20th Street, NYC 10011. Founded and curated by Glory Kadigan, Playwrights for a Cause is the annual benefit hosted by Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. This year the event will benefit this important group - New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.

Actors Bridge Slates Auditions for 2016/17 Season

Nashville's Actors Bridge Ensemble is pleased to announce open call auditions for their 21st professional theatre season. Auditions will be held Sunday, June 26, at the Actors Bridge Studio at Darkhorse Theatre by appointment. Actors are asked to please prepare a contemporary monologue of their choice under 2 minutes in length and to provide both a headshot and resume for consideration. Callbacks for each production will occur by invitation.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) are thrilled to announce the winners of the 61st Annual Obie Awards. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award® for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie Award® for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Atlantic Theater Company's critically acclaimed, world premiere production of Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, that sold out at Stage 2 earlier this season, transfered Off Broadway to Atlantic's main stage Linda Gross Theater earlier this month. Detroit Public Theatre to Conclude Inaugural Season with DETROIT '67

Completing its inaugural season, Detroit Public Theatre will present the award-winning Detroit '67 by Dominique Morisseau May 13 - June 5th (CHANGED from the Originally scheduled May 6 - 29 to accommodate a partnership with the prestigious Baltimore Center Stage).
