The dance programme will be presented by Padamshri Shovana Narayan (Kathak) and Vidushi Sunanda Sharma (Classical vocal) at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019 from 7 pm onwards. Dr. Lavlin Thadani will be the Sutradhar (XX) at the event. Shri Pavan Varma, a former Indian Foreign Service officer and ex-Member of Parliament, will be the chief guest at the event.
On December 5th, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe proudly presents a panel with Jeremiah Moss (author of Vanishing New York), Sarah Schulman (author of Gentrification of the Mind) and Betty Yu (co-founder of the Chinatown Art Brigade). These activists and authors will discuss the personal and social impacts of gentrification, and explore effective forms of anti-gentrification activism. The talk will center on the history, and current state, of gentrification in the Lower East Side. Poetic performances by muMs, Caridad De La Luz, and Darian Dauchan will finish out the night.

St. Luke's United Methodist Church (St. Luke's UMC) welcomes award-winning and world-renowned British composer Howard Goodall again this year as he conducts the world premiere of his Christmas Cantata. This seven-movement work was specially created by the composer for the choirs of St. Luke's UMC as part of the church's 2019 Christmas Festival. This piece is written for soprano solo, children's choir, SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir, organ, and chamber orchestra and will be performed in its entirety throughout each of the three services in the sanctuary on December 15. The Christmas Festival is made possible by the generosity of St. Luke's Friends of Music.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, one of the nation's premier music ensembles and a leader in presenting wide-ranging repertoire, offers three Baroque Conversations programs curated and led by LACO artists during the 2019-20 season, each with back-to-back performances on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm. LACO Music Director Jaime Martín conducts Handel's spirited Water Music, as well as works by Telemann and R. Strauss on November 21 and 22, 2019; Principal Trumpet David Washburn and Principal Horn Michael Thornton co-lead an all-brass program, including works by Bach, Vivaldi, Handel and Purcell on January 16 and 17, 2020; and Principal Keyboard Patricia Mabee, featured on harpsichord, leads a diverse range of work for harpsichord, theorbo and baroque guitar by a range of contemporary and Baroque-era Hispanic and Latin American composers on a program entitled a?oeBorder Crossings,a?? on March 12 and 13, 2020. The Iraqi maqam (modal system), one of Iraq's richest cultural offerings, features sophisticated melodies, infectious rhythms, and eloquent poetry. Hamid Al-Saadi, Iraq's foremost exponent of this centuries-old tradition, is renowned for his powerful voice and highly ornamented style, as well as his comprehensive knowledge of the intricate details of the music and poetry of Iraq. Al-Saadi is the only person from his generation to have memorized and mastered all 56 maqamat from the Baghdad repertoire, and is one of the few vocalists to keep this maqam alive today. He is joined by Safaafir, the only US-based ensemble dedicated to performing the Iraqi maqam in it traditional format. The group is led by the acclaimed Amir ElSaffar (santur-zither) and Dena El Saffar (joza-bowed stringed instrument, violin) of Iraqi descent, and features Tim Moore on percussion.
