New York Innovative Theatre Foundation Announces 2014 IT Awards Nominees

On Monday, July 21, 2014, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 10 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2014 nominees at its annual event. Celebrating ten years and thousands of nominees, the IT PARTY took place at XL Night Club, 512 West 42nd Street.

Ivy Theatre Presents 'THE FEMINISM OF SOFT MERLOT,' Begin. Today

Ivy Theatre Company presents the world premiere of The Feminism of a Soft Merlot or (How the Donkey Got Punched), an original play by award-winning playwright, Micheline Auger (recipient of the 2012 Paul Green Award) and directed by Audrey Alford. Dedicated to dynamic storytelling that explores the human condition in a visceral way, Ivy Theatre Company is working with Funny... Sheesh Productions in a space sharing partnership to promote artistic union and collaboration within the New York City independent theatre scene. In addition to sharing a space, the companies will be using the same production team and uniting their promotional efforts, as well as, hosting a joint fundraiser. The Feminism of a Soft Merlot or (How the Donkey Got Punched) is proudly published by Indie Theater Now.

The Sister Rosettas Return to New Ohio Theatre, Now thru 12/14

After a sold-out run in September, The Sister Rosettas are back with five more performances. A revival of the rock/pop-punk/cabaret music of world touring MING DYNASTY, last seen on City Stages in 2009 alongside Diana Ross, Ben Harper, and Al Green, now brings new front woman Diana Oh and bassist/songwriter Philippe Arman to the stage. The story of how this new collaboration was formed fuses old songs and new and is led by veterans Eric Miranda, Kole Smith and Matt Harrington.

Featured Guest Erik Ehn to Launch New York Madness' 2013 Season, 9/15

New York Madness (NYM) is about to start its Fourth Season. With a focus on emerging writers, NYM hosts a hot night of short plays based on a theme proposed by the more established Featured Guest. The Theme is announced one week prior to the event.

Gideon Productions Opens FRANKENSTEIN UPSTAIRS, 6/14

Gideon Productions (NYIT Outstanding Premiere Production of a Play Award for Advance Man) will present the World Premiere of playwright Mac Rogers' (The Honeycomb Trilogy; Viral) modern horror story FRANKENSTEIN UPSTAIRS, June 14-30 at The Secret Theatre (44 02 23rd Street, Long Island City). The production will be directed by Jordana Williams (The Honeycomb Trilogy; Viral) and will feature Autumn Dornfeld* (The Graduate on Broadway; Beebo Brinker Chronicles at NYTW), Rob Maitner* (Mr. McQueen in the original cast of Urinetown!), Diana Oh (Rob Askins' P.S. Jones and the Frozen City; Mariah MacCarthy's The Foreplay Play), and Kristen Vaughan* (Amelia in The Honeycomb Trilogy; NYIT Award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role for Retro Productions Benefactors). The creative team will include Special Effects by Stephanie Cox-Williams, Costume Design by Amanda Jenks, Sound Design by Jeanne Travis, Lighting Design by Jennifer Linn Wilcox, and Set Design bySandy Yaklin. Caps Lock Theatre Presents PUSSYFEST REDUX, 2/9-10

Caps Lock Theatre, an NYIT-Award nominated theatre company founded by nytheatre.com 'Person of the Year' Mariah MacCarthy, will present Pussyfest Redux, tonight, February 9th and the 10th at Joria Productions (260 West 36th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue). The two evenings will feature monologues about the body, written for femaleidentifying or female-bodied actresses, as well as some live music by female musicians.
