Lincoln Center Announces Public Art Commissions for New David Geffen Hall

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts has collaborated with The Studio Museum in Harlem and Public Art Fund to commission acclaimed contemporary artists Nina Chanel Abney and Jacolby Satterwhite for new site-specific visual artworks that will inaugurate the new David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic, opening in October 2022.

The new David Geffen Hall will open in October 2022, two years ahead of schedule and on budget, a crucial cultural revitalization project at a watershed moment for New York City, Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic announced today. Additionally, the funding goal for the $550 million project has been achieved.

Sheri Greenawald Awarded The San Francisco Opera Medal

San Francisco Opera Center Director and Merola Opera Program Artistic Director Sheri Greenawald, whose December 2020 retirement was announced in March, received the San Francisco Opera Medal at a special Zoom event organized by San Francisco Opera and Merola Opera Program. The Opera Medal, the Company's highest honor, was awarded to Greenawald for her extraordinary service and leadership with the Company.
New York Philharmonic Continues PROJECT 19

The New York Philharmonic has cancelled all previously scheduled concerts from January 6, 2021, through June 13, 2021, due to COVID-19. In compliance with New York State health regulations and on the advice of health officials, the Orchestra regrets being unable to resume concerts during the 2020-21 season.

The New York Philharmonic is featured in 'The 5th,' a four-movement podcast miniseries exploring the music, context, and legacy of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Then titled Grand Symphony in C minor, the work was the very first that the Philharmonic performed, in 1842, marking the symphony's US Premiere.

Tickets are now available for Phil the Hall, the New York Philharmonic's second annual $5 concert conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, Friday, April 3, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. The concert will feature Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man; Bernstein's Times Square: 1944, from Three Dance Episodes from On the Town; a movement from Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5; Nina C. Young's Tread softly, one of 19 new works by women the Philharmonic commissioned as part of Project 19, celebrating the centennial of the 19th Amendment; 13-year-old New York Philharmonic Very Young Composer Paloma Alonso; and several works selected by the audience.
