The Center for Public Leadership (CPL) at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) announced today that Los Angeles Philharmonic President and Chief Executive Officer Deborah Borda will join the Center for Public Leadership community as a Hauser Leader-in-Residence. Borda is the first arts executive to hold the post. Her appointment will begin in September 2015, at which time she will take a four-month sabbatical from the Philharmonic.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic today announced Next on Grand: National Composers Intensive, a three-day immersive program that offers the opportunity for selected American composition students to develop their craft by creating new works for wild Up, an L.A.-based modern music collective. Participants will also attend LA Phil concerts and work with esteemed composers featured on Next on Grand: Contemporary Americans. Diane B. Paul, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, today announced that David C. Bohnett, Chairman of the David Bohnett Foundation, has pledged a $20 million gift to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This gift will create the David C. Bohnett Presidential Fund for Discovery and Innovation and will also provide for the naming of the David C. Bohnett Presidential Chair, which endows the position of President and Chief Executive Officer in perpetuity (the position held by Deborah Borda since 2000). This gift is made in honor of Deborah Borda's continuing accomplishments with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Bohnett is a former Board Chair of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and currently serves on the Board and the Executive Committee.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and its Music Director Gustavo Dudamel opened the 2014/15 season with A Celebration of John Williams: Opening Night Gala Concert, a star-studded evening honoring the greatest film composer of all time at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tuesday, September 30. The event featured the LA Phil, led by Dudamel, world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, soloists Dan Higgins, Glenn Paulson and Michael Valerio, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets and the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, led by Anne Tomlinson and supported by members from the Angeles Chorale. Also showcased were several elaborate video installations created by projection designer Netia Jones and critically-acclaimed creative studio LIGHTMAP. The all-Williams concert program included specially selected works from throughout his impressive career as well as a surprise appearance during the encores.

As always, the Festival will feature the emerging generation of jazz artists as well as superstars of the genre. George Lopez will host the event, marking the second year of his involvement with the Festival after taking over from Bill Cosby in 2013.

The Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) and Artistic Director Harry Christophers have announced H+H's 2014-2015 Season-its 200th-featuring the Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus performing works from the Baroque and Classical eras. Highlights include a collection of some of the greatest oratorios ever written, stellar guest artists, and two brilliant showcases for H+H Concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky. The season opens with a concert that commemorates H+H's first public program at Boston's King's Chapel on December 25, 1815.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic joins forces with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in TchaikovskyFest - an exploration of Tchaikovsky, led by Gustavo Dudamel, including performances of the six symphonies and selected tone poems; and significant community and education events with Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA), including the TAKE A STAND symposium, which will examine best practices, lessons learned and future directions of music education. Evident during the monumental Mahler Project, presented during the 2011/12 season, the relationship between the LA Phil and the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela is a partnership that transcends limitation and truly epitomizes unity through music.
