Jackalope Theatre Announces Cast, Creatives for Season Opener THE RAID

Jackalope's 8th season kicks off with THE RAID, written by Idris Goodwin, directed by founding company member and associate artistic director Kaiser Ahmed*, with the full cast and production team announced below. The show runs November 4 - December 12, 2015 at Broadway Armory Park, 5917 N. Broadway.

Raven Theatre Company's BEAST ON THE MOON Begins Tonight

Raven Theatre Company to produce Richard Kalinoski's universally celebrated Beast on the Moon CHICAGO - The final play of Raven's 2014-15 season will be Richard Kalinoski's Beast on the Moon, a touching and frequently humorous story of two refugees from the Armenian Genocide as they struggle to build a new life together in 1920's and 1930's Milwaukee. Beast on the Moon begins previews tonight, April 21 and opens on April 27, 2015, playing through June 6.

Writers Theatre to Present THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, 2/24-6/28

Writers Theatre presents The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, adapted by Wendy Kesselman and directed by Kimberly Senior. The show runs February 24 - June 28, 2015 at Books on Vernon, 664 Vernon Avenue, Glencoe. The Press Openings are Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, 2015.

Oracle Productions, Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Win Big at 41st Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards

"The Mother," a stage tale of class warfare, and "Passion," a musical of love and obsession, took home top honors for Oracle Productions and Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre respectively Monday, June 2, at Park West during the 41st Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards ceremony recognizing excellence in non-union Chicago theatre. Oracle, with five awards, and Theo Ubique, with four awards, garnered the most honors at Monday night's ceremony.

Raven's revival of this later play by Tennessee Williams that was 'rediscovered' in acclaimed productions in London and New York is an autobiographical play that Williams first began writing around the time he started The Glass Menagerie. It concerns a young writer who in 1938 moves to a ramshackle French Quarter rooming house that's home to an assortment of desperate and eccentric characters. The New York Times said Vieux Carre is, along with The Glass Menagerie, Williams' other autobiographical memory play, one of two 'critical bookends' to Williams' career. Non-Equity Jeff Awards are Announced

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 128 nominations in 24 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 147 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 66 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty theatre companies received nominations.

THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD to Begin Previews 2/4 at Raven Theatre

Raven Theatre will present THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD, by J.M. Synge, and directed by Michael Menedian. The show will begin previews on Feb. 4, and continue through Feb. 9, with ticket prices at $22. Opening night is set for Feb. 10, and the show wil run through April 5, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 3 pm Tickets $36, $15 for students, teachers and military personnel, $5 discount for seniors

Mary-Arrchie's SUPERIOR DONUTS Extends Through Dec. 31

Due to popular demand, Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co.'s hit production of SUPERIOR DONUTS will add three final weeks of performances - extending through December 31, 2012 at The Royal George Cabaret Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted St. in Chicago. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts and directed by Matt Miller, the critically acclaimed remount features nearly all of the original Mary-Arrchie cast members. A special New Year's Eve performance on Monday, December 31 at 8 pm will mark the show's final performance at The Royal George, where the remount enjoyed a two-month run, including two extensions.

Writers' Theatre Extends HAMLET thru November 25

Writers' Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces added performances of Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare and directed by Artistic Director Michael Halberstam. The production has been extended two weeks, and MUST CLOSE November 25, 2012, at Writers' Theatre, 325 Tudor Court in Glencoe.
