The New York Musical Festival (NYMF), previously known as The New York Musical Theatre Festival, announced today the initial lineup for NYMF 2016. Among the shows announced in the lineup are the Next Link Project musical selections, as well as invited production selections, developmental reading selections, and concerts. Now in its thirteenth year, the 2016 Festival will take place in July at locations around midtown Manhattan in New York City.

The Pit Stop Players, a fourteen-member instrumental ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, will present "Bolling Night," an evening of music by the legendary Claude Bolling, plus pieces by other composers who combine jazz and classical idioms. The Sept. 19th 'Tokyo to New York' concert will feature premiers composed or arranged for critically acclaimed clarinetist and hichiriki player Thomas Piercy by Tokyo- and NYC-based composers. Mr. Piercy will be joined in the concert by one of Japan's leading classical and contemporary pianists, Noritaka Ito.

NYC and Tokyo-based clarinetist, Thomas Piercy performs two concerts of new music by contemporary Japanese composers based on their thoughts about NYC and works by non-Japanese composers influenced or inspired by Japan. The concerts will be visually backed by projections of photos of New York City by photographer Christina Boers and photos of Tokyo by Thomas Piercy. Many of the pieces have been composed for and premiered by Mr. Piercy. Several of the pieces include the combination of Western classical instruments with traditional Japanese instruments (shakuhachi and hichiriki).
