Casting Set For Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival Running 6/19-21

The Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival (June Lindenmayer, Executive Director; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director) has announced casting for the line-up of new works for the 2009 summer festival of theatre and dance at the venerable performing arts school in Steamboat Springs, CO. The 12th Annual New Works Festival is scheduled June 19 - 21 with staged readings of the plays and a special dance presentation.

Picnic, by William Inge, will open Thursday, April 2 at Stoneham Theatre. The classic American drama, set in a small Kansas town in the early 1950s, tells the story of Madge and Alan, a sweet young couple and Hal, the ex-football star and drifter who awakens Madge's true desires and shakes up the community. Most of the story takes place around a Labor Day picnic. Picnic was first produced on Broadway in 1953 with actor Paul Newman has Hal Carter. Inge received the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the work.

Directed by Peter DuBois, BECKY SHAW features David Wilson Barnes, Emily Bergl, Kelly Bishop, Annie Parisse, and Thomas Sadoski.
