Wong Kar-Wai Retrospective Opens with Wong in Person for NY premiere of Grandmaster on August 10

Wong Kar-wai, the influential Hong Kong Second Wave filmmaker, internationally renowned for his visually dazzling and emotionally resonant work, will be the subject of a retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from July 12 through August 24, 2013. The New York premiere of The Grandmaster on August 10, with Wong Kar-wai in person, is the centerpiece of this comprehensive retrospective, which includes theatrical screenings of all ten of the director's feature films. The Grandmaster, a wuxia epic and biopic which marks the auteur's astonishing return to genre filmmaking, is being released by The Weinstein Company on August 23.

Deb Radloff Awarded Classic Stage Co's Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant

Classic Stage Company has announced that Deb Radloff, who appeared in the company's recent production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle, is this year's recipient of the Rosemarie Tichler Fund grant. The Fund was established in 2010 with the mission to assist young actors who have appeared at CSC and who have recently made the transition from their training into the profession. The $3000 grant can be used by the young artist to continue training or to offset loans they may have incurred while studying their craft. With the grant, CSC hopes to make a difference in the lives of young actors at the start of their careers as well as to heighten awareness in the community to the specific needs of actors. The recipient was selected by a panel of judges which included Rosemarie Tichler, CSC Artistic Director Brian Kulick and CSC Casting Director James Calleri.

A.C.T. to Kick Off 2013-14 Season with 1776, Begin. 9/11

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) kicks off its 2013-14 season with passionate (and patriotic) fireworks with the West Coast premiere of Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati's triumphant new staging of the musical 1776. The Old Globe presents THINKING SHAKESPEARE LIVE!, a 90-minute presentation exploring the language of Shakespeare, today, June 15 at 11 a.m. Led by Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and assisted by three professional classical actors, this special program based on Edelstein's book, THINKING SHAKESPEARE: A HOW-TO GUIDE FOR STUDENT ACTORS, DIRECTORS, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE BARD, will reveal a performer's approach to Shakespearean language so audiences may easily understand the poetry of the Bard.
