In 1980, a musical based on the beloved novel Flowers For Algernon, by Charles Strouse and David Rogers, opened on Broadway. Though it ran for less than month, Strouse's wonderful score was recorded by the London company and has lived on in vinyl. For one night only, Second Act Concerts will present the haunting score in a concert at Feinstein's/54 Below.

Victoria Playhouse Petrolia opened its 2016 last night to a sold out crowd with Scotland Sings. While the spirit of celebration filled the air in Petrolia, Co-Artistic Director David Hogan spoke of those affected by the fires in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In his pre-show chat with the audience, he announced that all proceeds from the Opening Night performance will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to aid in relief in Fort McMurray.

The brainchild of Metropolitan Room managing partner Bernie Furshpan, his General Manager Joseph Macchia, and Cabaret Scenes Magazine Publisher Peter Leavy, New York's first International Cabaret Festival (February 17-21) debuted Wednesday night at the Met Room with performances and inductions into the newly established Cabaret Hall of Fame (an actual location for Hall and its memorabilia to be determined at a later date). Clubs hosting this year's festival include The Metropolitan Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Feinstein's/54 Below, Iridium, Joe's Pub, and Stage 72 (formerly The Triad).

Clear Creek Community Theatre (CCCT) wraps up its Golden Anniversary Season with three diverse comedies sure to please its audiences. First up, "The Dixie Swim Club" follows the annual reunion of a college swim team over the course of 33 years. At their rented beachside cottage in North Carolina, Sheree, Vernadette, Jerri Neal, Dinah, and Lexie renew their friendship and share both funny and poignant moments in their lives. This comedy-drama by Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten, and Jesse Jones beautifully illustrates the enduring power of "teamwork". The "Dixie Swim Club" runs March 13-29.
