The Little Orchestra Society is reaching out to fellow New Yorkers to help craft its new name. Long time fans of the Orchestra and new enthusiasts alike will have the opportunity to submit their favorite names for an institution beloved by generations of concert-goers. Today through March 9th, music lovers are invited to visit the Orchestra's website: littleorchestra.org, and recommend a new name for an Orchestra known for its audience engagement, inclusive educational mission and commitment to innovative music and multi-disciplinary performances. The Orchestra's new name will be announced later this year.
The Bushwick Starr will present a collaboration between stage and film director Daniel Fish and dance and theater artist Andrew Dinwiddie. Using nearly seven weeks of residency time at the Bushwick Starr, and in collaboration with actor T. Ryder Smith (War Horse, Passion Play) and designers Blanca Añon (ETERNAL, Owned) and Daniel Kluger (Nikolai and the Others, A Map of Virtue), they will create PHIL. 176 / OBIT, an episodic performance installation that draws simultaneously on the text of Shelly Kagan's renowned Yale College philosophy course, 'PHIL 176: Death,'* and on current American obituaries and death notices.

Jacob's Pillow is a National Historic Landmark, home to America's longest-running dance festival, and a recipient of the National Medal of Arts. The Little Orchestra Society, in association with New York City Center, is pleased to announce an exciting reimagined version of the timeless Russian masterpiece, Stravinsky's Firebird, at New York City Center on November 23rd and 24th. The production, part of The Little Orchestra Society's Happy Concerts for Young People series, will take audiences on an unforgettable journey through space and time using light, shadows, music, dance and Bunraku-style puppetry to tell the epic tale of Prince Ivan, the magical firebird and the struggle between good and evil. The story will be set to Stravinsky's dramatic narrative music and the performance will be guest conducted by David Alan Miller.

Farley Post Office in Midtown Manhattan.

The season's first installment, IT'S LIKE WE ARE INFILTRATORS, PART II, is a multi-disciplinary and installation-based evening curated and conceived by Neal Medlyn. The performances tonight, October 5 and tomorrow night, October 6 will also feature his original music, both live and recorded. Each hour-long performance begins at 10:00 p.m.
Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) sets the DNA PRESENTS 2012-13 season in motion with a multi-tiered world premiere by Isabel Lewis/LEWIS FOREVER, today, September 12-15, 2012. A Guide to Kinship and Maybe Magic is a new work conceived and directed by Isabel Lewis and performed by Brooklyn-based playwright, dramaturg and performer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The work will feature the 2011 film, SISTER, created by LEWIS FOREVER, a performance collective formed by Isabel and her three siblings, Sarah, Ligia and George Jr. All shows are at 7:30 p.m.
The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) announced today that FUN HOME, a new musical with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, will open the 2012-2013 season of the Public Lab, a program designed to connect audiences and artists in the process of creating new theater. Directed by Sam Gold, FUN HOME is based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel and will run Wednesday, October 17 through Sunday, November 4 in The Public's Shiva Theater. Member tickets are $12 and are on sale now. Single tickets, priced at $15, go on sale Tuesday, September 18.

Cellist Maya Beiser will see the New York premiere of her new production, ELSEWHERE, a "CelloOpera," in four performances from October 17 through 20 at 7:30pm, during the 2012 BAM Next Wave Festival in the inaugural season of the Fishman Space, part of BAM's new Richard B. Fischer Building which opens in September 2012 at 321 Ashland Place in Brooklyn. ELSEWHERE is produced by Beth Morrison Projects.
