Jazz guitarist Reza Khan hits the City Winery stage in New York City on Thursday night to celebrate his well-received new album release, “Next Train Home,” which hit charts on both sides of jazz while garnering effusive reviews. Soon after he takes his final bow, he'll be back in his role as a United Nations program manager jetting off to Uganda as part of peace and conflict operations. It's an unusual balancing act for the Bangladesh-born, New York City-based Khan, who manages to straddle creative and diplomatic duties throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East with aplomb.

Globetrotting guitarist Reza Khan dropped his fifth album, 'Next Train Home,' on Friday. The twelve songs that he wrote and produced for the collection symbolize the discovery of his musical home, a multi-genre and multicultural mélange of straight-ahead and contemporary jazz enriched with world music and Brazilian jazz nuances. The album has already climbed into the top 100 on the Jazz Week chart based on radio spins from jazz radio stations while the smooth/contemporary jazz single, 'Drop of Faith,' featuring guitarist Nils, has earned most added honors on the Billboard chart.

Jazz Guitarist Reza Khan Finds HOME While Traveling Abroad

Severely dehydrated from the oppressive heat during his travels from Mali to Uganda, Reza Khan was hospitalized after collapsing in a United Nations office. To avoid the lengthy hospitalization prescribed by doctors, he convinced them that he would recover faster if he was ensconced in a hotel room instead. During that five-day stay, he broke out his portable guitar and wrote the title track for his fifth album, “Next Train Home,” which drops April 5.

Today actor, playwright, filmmaker, and comedian, Tyler Perry, has announced On Sale details for Tyler Perry's "Madea's Farewell Play Tour".  The nationwide tour will kick off in Oakland, CA on January 18, and over the course of 5 months, Perry will bring his beloved characters to venues across the United States, including a stop in St. Louis at the Fabulous Fox Theatre May 10-12. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The tour will wrap at New York City's iconic Radio City Music Hall at the end of May.

To open their ninety-eighth season, the Community Players is offering SOCIAL SECURITY by Andrew Bergman at Jenks Auditorium in Pawtucket. The play has an excellent pedigree. After twenty-six previews, the Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, opened on April 17, 1986 and ran for 388 performances. Not chopped liver. And New York magazine in 1985 dubbed playwright Andrew Bergman 'The Unknown King of Comedy,'. His best known films include Blazing Saddles, The In-Laws, and The Freshman. Again, not chopped liver.

RCA Inspiration is elated to receive 9 nominations for the upcoming 48th Annual GMA Dove Awards, with hit releases from five artists being recognized in six categories among the nominations unveiled today.  A celebration of every style of Christian/Gospel music under one roof, this year's GMA Dove Awards nominations honor the outstanding work from chart-toppers Kirk Franklin (Fo Yo Soul/RCA), Travis Greene, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, and William Murphy spanning Contemporary Gospel, Traditional Gospel, and Urban Worship categories, as well as top categories including a Songwriter of the Year nomination and two nods for Gospel Artist of the Year.  Additionally, Franklin receives a nomination in Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year as a producer on Tamela Mann's project.
